Mrs. Ervin Lineberger that
farming is not simple. Mr.
Lineberger explained that
plants must get a precise
amount of water and food.
The Linebergers also
explained that the farm gets
its name from the killdeer
bird which lives on the
ground and eats insects
which are harmful to the
Crops.
Mrs. Sellers, Ms. Parker

KMHS
students
give blood
Cadbury eggs, chocolate
bunnies, and peeps are
common gifts at Easter. This
year, however, students at
the high
school
decided to
give a gift
that is far
more pre-
cious and
valuable.
The stu-
dents who ponna Tackett
gave at the KMHS News
high scho0] susssmm——
saved the lives of up to
three people each; they
gave something that only
five percent of the popula-
tion gives; they gave some-
thing that can not be pro-
duced in any factory; they
gave their own blood.
For his Senior Project,
Josh Sutton, contacted the
American Red Cross and
:
!
i
1
. convinced them to bring the
blood mobile by the high
school on March 18. Josh's
original goal was to have at
least 55 people give. In the
end he had 83 people,
including myself, sign up.
While waiting in line to
give blood, and while read-
ing the seemingly never-
ending requirements and
guidelines of giving blood, I
met a lot of interesting peo-
ple. One such person was
Shandea Byers. It was
Shandea’s first time giving
- blood. While nervously
waiting, she had this to say,
“I'm about to pass out,
but I am glad to be able to
help.”
I think this is the way
most volunteers were feel-
ing while waiting to give
blood.
After inquiring with a
group of those who had
already given blood, I
learned that most people :
were returning donors who p
wanted the same rewarding i
experience they felt the last
time they donated. I must i
say that I am extremely
impressed by the people
who signed up to give
blood and I am shocked
that more people did not
sign up to do so. !
I understand that some
people have a fear of nee-
dles, or don’t meet one of §
the five hundred qualifica-
tions to give blood (I didn’t)
but I also know that there :
are plenty of people who }
could give blood and just |
chose not to for no good ;
reason. I must say that that |
is one of my greatest pet ¥
peeves, when somebody
can do something for the !
greater good and they chose i
not to.
Now don’t get me wrong, 3
I know it is impossible to
help everybody all the time,
and I don’t expect that by
any means. I just think that
it is ridiculous how people
shrug off a life saving act so
easily. Especially one that i
on average only takes 10
minutes.
So, I guess what I am say-
ing is that next year when 5
you start getting into the
Easter spirit, take 10 min-
utes out of your day and do
something for the greater
good. In fact, why wait till
next year; after all, we are
still in the Easter Season.
