Kings Mountains Mountaineers fin-
ished third in the Shelby Savings Bank
Easter Tournament last week at Shelby
High's Veteran's Field.
After defeating East Mecklenburg in
their opener on Tuesday, the
Mountaineers fell to eventual
Tournament Champion Burns 3-2 on
Wednesday and bounced back on
Saturday to defeat the state’s third-
ranked 4A team, South Mecklenburg,
4-1
Mountaineer senior Tyler Leach, who
hurled four innings to get the win over
South Mecklenburg and finished the
tournament with a .667 batting average
(6-for-9), was named the tournament’s
Most Outstanding Hitter.
Kings Mountain appeared well on
the way to winning the championship
on Wednesday when the Mountaineers
led Burns 2-0 into the bottom of the
sixth inning. Sophomore right-hander
Ryan Leach was working on a one-hit-
ter when the Bulldogs struck for three
unearned runs.

Hendricks. Tyler Leach’s

Mountaineers on top 2-0
and after Glass walked
Moffitt rattled the fence
with another double to
make the score 4-0.

Leach helped his own cause by belt-
ing a lead-off home run in the first
inning. Brad Moffitt laced a double off
the left-center field fence in the second
