After defeating East Mecklenburg in their opener on Tuesday, the Mountaineers fell to eventual Tournament Champion Burns 3-2 on Wednesday and bounced back on Saturday to defeat the state’s third- ranked 4A team, South Mecklenburg, 4-1 Mountaineer senior Tyler Leach, who hurled four innings to get the win over South Mecklenburg and finished the tournament with a .667 batting average (6-for-9), was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Hitter. Kings Mountain appeared well on the way to winning the championship on Wednesday when the Mountaineers led Burns 2-0 into the bottom of the sixth inning.
