How to take care of your brushes Tips on taking care of your painting brushes: Your brushes are an invest- ETT ment. By cleaning them thor- oughly and [& properly at & the end of a painting session, they will pat Childers last longer. Arts Be sure to sn wipe off any excess paint using a cloth or soft tissue. Rinse the brush in turpen- tine if you've been using oils, or lukewarm water for water-based paints. Wash using mild soap, dab your brush gently into the piece of soap, then work up a lather in the palm of your hand. Rinse and repeat until there's no trace of any color coming out. Rinse again to make sure there is no soap left in brush, then take fingers to gently shape the head into its correct shape. Stand brushes up in a container to dry. These tips will ensure a long lasting brushes. Ms. Margaret Dixon will instruct the children's class on April 30. Margaret has been a member of the Southern Arts Society for many years, and has worked with children for 20 years or more. ; As a teenager, Margaret studied first under Dora Quela V. De Mantz for a period of two or three years. Dona Quela taught out of her home and she was a graduate of the Escuela de Bellios Artes in Buenos Aires, Argentina and also the mother school of Beaux Arts in Paris, France. Since moving to Kings Mountain, Margaret has benefited from the art instruction of John Brady and Zoltan Szabo. She greatly acknowledges the opportunities of the SAS for many sponsored work- shops that she has been a part of. Please keep in mind that the Art Center is open only on the week-ends. Shelly Fairchild is the young singer. She describes herself as “a little bit coun- try and a little bit rock ‘n roll.” She’s been hugely suc- cessful opening for such Nashville greats as Wynonna, Travis Tritt, Brad Paisley and Rascal Flatts. She is scheduled to perform on the David Letterman Show May 17. The Carnival Saturday midway, featuring numer- .ous new rides, and assorted food vendors will be in operation along the park’s Dorton Drive from 11 a.m-7 p.m. In case of rain, the carni- val midway will be in opera- tion from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, May 1. Ocean Boulevard will be in concert from 6-7 p.m. in the park’s Community Center. Miss Fairchild and her group will perform from 7-9 p.m. Community Center doors open at 5:30. Capacity is lim- ited and patrons will be admitted on a first come, first admitted basis. Admission to all midway rides and amusements and the two evening concerts will be $5. Shuttle busses at 11 a.m. will begin making rounds from City Park to The Chamber at Warren and Lafayette streets to the Shelby Middle School park- ing lot on Sumter Street. The shuttles will operate through the Shelby Fairchild concert if warranted. The Foothills Merry-Go- Round Festival is a family oriented, non-alcoholic event. Festival organizers have placed heavy emphasis upon having midway rides and amusements for every- one. The perennial favorites ~ are the City Park’s Carrousel and Rotary train, pony rides and petting zoo. The midway will feature such new amusement as Seaweed The Sea Serpent, a Big Red Fire Truck Slide, the Spinner, a ferris wheel, a rodeo bull, Extreme Adrenaline Obstacle Course, a 32-foot-high mountain climbing wall and more. Participants in the Foothills Merry-Go-Round Golf Tournament will tee off at 9:30 a.m. at the park’s Royster Memorial Golf Course.
