She was a native of community and children’s activities. She was vice-president of the PTO at Kings Mountain Intermediate School, was a substitute teacher for Kings Mountain schools, and a for- mer teacher at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. She was a 1989 graduate of Hunter Huss High School, Gastonia, and was a graduate of Gaston College. She was an employee of Tucker House in Shelby and a former employee of the DMYV, Gastonia. She is survived by her for- mer husband, Dennis Cole of Kings Mountain; son Jacob Alexander Cole of Kings Mountain; daughter Anna Elizabeth Cole of King Mountain; parents Bobby Eugene and Mary Jenkins Vernon of Hayesville; sister Mary Beth Edge and hus- band Tony of Kings Mountain; niece Kayla Edge; nephew Matthew Edge; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral will be con- ducted bythe Rev. Jody Griffin at 11 a.m. Thursday at David Baptist Church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Gastonia. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. EDNA SHOLTIS KINGS MOUNTAIN - Edna Arvidson Sholtis, 94, of Kings Mountain, died May 1, 2005 at Country Time Inn. She was born November 22,1910 in Pittsburgh, Pa, the daughter of Edwin Sigfried and Agnes Miller Olson. : She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1930 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Ashtabula. Edna married Gordon Everett Arvidson on June 5, 1932 in the Messiah Lutheran Church. This was the very first marriage per- formed in this new church. She has two sons, Gary Edwin Arvidson of Kings Mountain, and Mark Everett Arvidson of Salem, Oregon. She had a son, Brent Gideon Arvidson, who died at birth in January 1947. Gordon Arvidson died on February 8, 1978. She later married Joseph J. Sholtis on January 11, 1986 in Sebring, Florida. Mr. Sholtis preceded in her death on May 19, 1994. She has two step chil- dren, Susan Sholtis Lawlor of Knoxville, Tenn., and Timothy J. Sholtis of Gig Harbor, Washington. She has five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 615 West Prospect Rd., Ashtabula with Rev. Elizabeth Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery in Ashtabula. Memorial contributions can be made to the World Care Ministry located at 144 Trade Street, P.O. Box 442, Dallas, NC 28034. This is a noble humanitarian effort that supplies the most basic provisions of life for the poorest of the poor. Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements. HILDA BARBER GOFORTH KINGS MOUNTAIN - Hilda Barber Goforth, 91, died May 2, 2005 at CIVISTA Hospital # in La Plata, MD. She was the daugh- ter of the late George C. and 9 Amanda Jane Rhea Barber and wife of the late Herman A. Goforth. She was also preceded in death by broth- ers Harold Barber and Rhea Barber. : She was a graduate of Appalachian State University with a B.S. degree in education. She taught school in the Kings Mountain and Gaston County school systems for over 20 years. She was an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution, served as President of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was active for many years as a voter registrar. She was also very active in the Senior Center and First Presbyterian Church, where she had perfect attendance for over 54 years. She is survived by her sons, George Goforth and wife Monica of La Plata, MD and Rick Goforth and wife Vicky of Midlothian, VA; daughter Sonyia Lovelace and husband Gerald of Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Lee Thomas at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation is from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Harris Funeral Home. LEONARD ANDERSON KINGS MOUNTAIN - Leonard Anderson, 54, 1551 Martin Road, died May 1, 2005 at the Hospice facility in Shelby. He was a native of Cleveland County and was preceded in death by his brother, Mickey Anderson. He was a former employ- ee of Yellow Freight in Shelby, and was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cherryville. He is survived by his wife, Joy Anderson of Kings ' Mountain; daughter Tina Ivester and husband Pastor R. Chadwick Ivester; parents Arthur and Bessie Ross Anderson of Kings Mountain; sister Betty Ivey of Kings Mountain; and grandchildren Gracie Ivester, John-Winston Ivester, and Isaac Ivester. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Leroy Trexler at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Cherryville. Visitation will be following the service in the church fellowship hall. A native of Gaston County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Glenn Morris and Mable Frances Saxton Ewing. She was also preced- ed in death by her brother, Billy Ewing. She was a homemaker. . She is survived by her husband, John Gray of Kings Mountain; sons Billy Gray and wife Judy and Robert Gray and wife Amy, all of Kings Mountain; ~~ daughters JoAnn Wheat and husband Ken of Kings Mountain, Wanda Oates and husband Bobby of Waco, Linda Burns and husband Charlie of Kings Mountain, and Brenda Bellamy of Holden Beach; sisters Runell Ewing of Black Mountain, Betty Smiley of Cherryville and Juanita Martin Devon of Belmont; brother Bobby Ewing and wife Katherine of Belmont; grandchildren Tandra Ramsey, Amanda Smith, Joey Gray, Melissa Gray, Carrie Oates, Alley Gray, Jonathan Oates and Kelsey Gray; and great- grandchildren Darren Burns, Cameron Ramsey and Jenna Ramsey. LISA ALEXANDER ROCKINGHAM - Lisa Gail Alexander, 23, died * April 25 from injuries sus- tained in an automobile accident in Pinebluff. She was the daugh- ter of Kings Mountain natives Rev. Gene and Cathy Alexander of Rockingham. She was the granddaugh- ter of Jerry and Sue Wilson of Kings Mountain and the late Louise Alexander of Kings Mountain. She was the niece of Rita and Dean Blanton and Lou Ann and Dennis Goforth, all of Kings Mountain.
