Heading the list is sopho- more pitcher Morgan Childers, who was voted SWEH Player of the Year for the second straight year. In addition, KM’s Suzanne Grayson was voted Coach of the Year for the second straight year. Joining Childers on the first team were shortstop Casey Camp, catcher Kala Buchanan, third baseman Kristyn Funderburke, out- fielders LaRonda McClain and Jessica Yarbro, and first ~ baseman Brittney Thornburg. Courtney Tate was named to the second team. Baker, Owner/Manager ~ KMHS was also well rep- resented on other AIl-SWFH teams. In baseball, pitcher-third baseman Tyler Leach was voted SWEH Co-Player of the Year. He was joined on the first team by Trey Glass, Josh Hendricks, Ryan Leach, Brad Moffitt and Isaac Proctor. Kevin Bell and Brad Camp made the second team. Sidney Goode was named Track Field Event Player of the Year in track. Also mak- ing All-Conference were Matt Farris, Avery Jordan, Martrice Love, Darrick Marable, Jermanuel McClain, Johnny Phillips, Javon Potts and Antwain Ross. Alex Pharr and Bianca Bell were named to the women's track All-SWFH team. The women’s soccer team was represented by Candace Campion, Emily Edwards, Susie Potter and Bennett Suber on the first team and Vanessa Sidavong and Stacey Spicer on the second team. Clay Costner, Will Franks and Kenny Greason made the all-conference tennis team. & * Kings Mountain High's Blair Heffner has been selected to the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association All-State team. Heffner made the All- Region 9 team all four years at KMHS. In 2004, she was selected Southwestern Foothills 3A Conference Player of the Year, and was runner-up for the same award in 2005. Heffner scored 125 goals in her high school career that contributed to a four- year overall record of 80-14- 4. The KMHS team won the conference championship twice, and finished second once and third once. The Hefner selected for East-West game Lady Mountaineers made the state playoffs all four years with their highest fin- ish in 2004 when they went into the final eight and were eliminated by TC Roberson by penalty kicks in the ninth round of shots. Heffner, a senior captain, will be playing soccer next fall at East Carolina. BLAIR HEFFNER Legion team wins Kings Mountain's American Legion Juniors won three games late last week then won another Tuesday night at Lancaster Field to run their record to 5-2. Friday night at Lancaster Field, Isaac Proctor hit a walk-off grand slam home run that climaxed a six-run rally after two were out to lift KM over Steele Creek 9- 8. Kings Mountain had been held to three hits and trailed 8-3 going into the bottom of the ninth. Luke Proctor finished with two hits to lead the plate attack. Isaac Proctor, Cort encouraged to enroll. He pitched the final two innings in relief, giving up two runs, three hits and fanning four. Saturday, the two teams went to Steele Creek and Kings Mountain won again, 10-0. Cort Hall pitched eight innings to get the win. He gave up only three hits. Moore pitched the final inning. Jordan Bingham'’s three- run home run in the first inning got the KM team rolling. Isaac Proctor walked and Austin singled before the home run. Kings Mountain scored three more runs in the sec- ond inning on two walks, two hit batsmen and a single by Proctor. Isaac Proctor’s double scored Michael Holland, who had singled, to put KM up 7-0 in the third. Hall singled, stole second and scored on a single by Kyle Alcide to make it 8-0 in the fourth. KM closed out the scoring with two runs in the eighth. Hall and Bingham walked and scored on a two-out hit by Ronnie Wilson. Alcide and Michael Holland led the KM hitting with three hits each, and Isaac Proctor added two hits. Kevin Bell pitched a com- plete game one-hitter Sunday in Gastonia as KM won its fourth straight game with a 5-0 shutout of Gastonia Post 23. Bell faced only 30 batters and struck out nine. He gave up one hit, walked one bat- ter and hit one. KM grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Michael Holland reached on an error, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Bingham. The score remained 1-0 until the eighth inning when KM scored two runs. Michael Holland and Hall walked with one out, and Bingham singled home Holland, leaving runners on second and third. Wilson's safety squeeze bunt scored Hall. KM closed out the scoring with two runs in the top of the ninth on a walk, back-to- back doubles by Isaac Proctor and Michael Holland, and a single by Hall. Tuesday night at home, Kings Mountain outscored Gastonia 14-10, winning the game with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the score tied at 10- all, Josh Hendricks led off the KM eighth with a home run. After Bingham singled and Alcide walked, Cody Barrett slammed a 3-run home run to account for the final margin. Ronnie Wilson went the distance for KM, scattering 10 hits and fanning six. Kings Mountain grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a dou- ble by Isaac Proctor and sin- RELAX. Alcide led off with a single, Anthony Day and Zach Harris drew walks, and Proctor and Hall laced RBI singles. Hendricks added a sacrifice fly to tie the score and Bingham hit a 2-run home run to give KM the lead. KM added a run in the bottom of the sixth on walks to Hall and Hendricks and singles by Bingham and Wilson. Kings Mountain was scheduled to host Huntersville Wednesday night, and travels to Cherryville on Friday. The Gaston Braves come to KM next Wednesday at 7 o’clock. Playoffs decide Rotary tourney All flight championships were decided in a playoff in the annual Kings Mountain Rotary Club Golf Tournament Friday at Kings Mountain Country Club. Earl Lutz, Alison Gilbert, Cecil Clark and Scott Hamrick won the champi- onship flight with a 15- under-par 58. They won the playoff over Wayne Kinley, Bill Cease, William Lindsay and Dave Clary. Greg Dixon, Josh Etters, David Dixon and Mark Dixon won the first flight with a 9-under-par 64. Second were Rick Hahn, Moses Nueman, Yuri Greene and Greg Hinson. Allen Martin, Roy Rhyne, Lance Martin and Steven Dunn won the second flight with a 70. Second place were Willie Combs, Dale Ostrander, Tyler Duke and Anthony Willis. Josh Etters and David McDaniel won closest to the pin contests and Wayne Kinley and Alison Gilbert had the longest drives. Fifty-nine players com- peted.
