Kings Mountain Tourism Development Authority special project, Gateway Trails matching grant, $12,500. approves new EMS for KM BY ANDIE L. BRYMER Staff Writer Kings Mountain will get a new EMS location in Cleveland County Industrial Park on Business 74. Cleveland County com- missioners approved the $400,000 project last week. Cost, location and response time were factors in the decision, according to Commission Chairman Ronnie Hawkins. For its current facility, EMS leases from Kings Mountain Hospital what was built as a private resi- dence. The building is locat- ed across the road from KMH. Ambulances are parked beneath a metal awning. The new facility would have four bays, sleeping quarters for para- medics and a kitchen, Hawkins said. The county had consid- ered constructing the new base on Stoney Point Road, but because Kings Mountain accounts for 22 percent of all calls the industrial park location was selected, Hawkins said. The new base will be located near U.S. 74 and Kings Mountain Boulevard which is under construc- tion. Over a 40 year period new construction will cost less than remaining at KMH's facility, according to Hawkins. No start date for con- struction has been set yet. Plonk Tire donates to local YMCA Plonk Tire Inc. and Uniroyal Tire have donated funds and equipment val- ued at more than $750 to the Kings Mountain YMCA as part of a nationwide youth soccer program. “We really enjoy partici- pating in the Uniroyal pro- gram because everyone benefits,” said Tim Plonk of Plonk Tire Inc. “The kids get free soccer balls, the league receives funds, and we have the opportunity to meet new families. This community has really been good to us, so we're thrilled to be working with the Kings Mountain YMCA to give something back.” Uniroyal Tire is now in its sixth year as a major spon- sor of youth soccer. In total, Uniroyal and its dealers have provided 575,000 free soccer balls to soccer fami- lies across America. Summer has come to an end and ‘school is about to begin.
