The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Brookes Hendry of Flowery Branch, GA and Consett County Durham, Great Britain. The bride’s maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bagwell of Kings Mountain. Her maternal great-grandmother is Mrs. Walter Bagwell of Elberton. Her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bailey of Ardmore, AL. Her pater- + nal great-grandmother is Mrs. Frances Bailey of Athens, AL. The groom's maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Black of Ashington, County Northumberland, Great Britain. His paternal grandparents are Mrs. Winnifred Hendry and the late James William Hendry of Consett, County Durham, Great Britain. The bride is a 2000 graduate of Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School and a 2003 graduate of Georgia College and State University. She holds a B.S. degree in Political Science. She is employed as Client Services Administrator at The Classic Center in Athens, GA. The groom is a 1992 graduate of Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham, County Northumberland, Great Britain. He is a 1996 graduate of Newcastle College, Consett, County Durham, Great Britain, with a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel / Catering Management. He is employed with the City of Gainesville, GA as a law enforcement officer. The wedding will be Sunday, October 2, 2005 at 5 p.m. at The Carl House, Auburn, GA. Canoe class set A basic canoe skills class will be held July 14 from 10 a.m.-12 noon at Crowders Mountain State Park. The age limit is seven years and all children must be accompanied by an adult. The couple was mar- ried on March 13, 1955. They were honored at a dinner reception held at Cramer Mountain Country Club, hosted by their children, Robin Smith, Robert Smith, Paula Williams, Schrell Scott, Ronald Smith, Melissa Moore and Quan Smith, who also gave them a trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Their grandchildren are Raven Butler, Le’Quan Smith, Keon Smith, Jarius Smith, Sutton Williams, Travis Williams, Shatoi Scott, Kohl Scott, Monique Brown, Saadia Smith, Roane'qua Smith, Shamell Rafes, Paige’ Lockhart, Drake Moore, Akea Smith, and Alissa Smith. They also have three great grandchildren, Kendal Hopper, Emory Brown and Janice Brown. Mrs. Smith is retired from Eaton Corporation and Mr. Smith is retired from Commercial Shearing and is a member of the YMCA. They attend Galilee United Methodist Church, where they serve on numerous committees. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Lexi Marie Wright, daughter of Lenny and Ann Marie Wright of Kings Mountain, was crowned Miniature Miss 4th of July Queen on July 2 at Gaston Mall. She was also awarded Overall Miss Photogenic. Lexi is now a member of the Miss Gastonia Queen’s Court and will reign at the Miss Gastonia Pageant on Saturday, August 13. Lexi is the granddaughter of Steve Sanders and Becky Pruitt, and Leonard and Tina Wright, all of Kings Mountain. Her hobbies are dancing, tee-ball and playing with her big brother, Landon. Film festival set July 20-23 in KM The Real to Reel film festi- val will be July 20-23 at the Joy Performance Center. The festival, sponsored by the Cleveland County Arts Council, features independ- ent, animated, documentary, student, amateur, profes- sional, short and feature pre- sentations. Real to Reel has become one of the biggest and fastest growing film festivals in the Carolinas. In the first five years the event has received hundreds of films from over 40 states and 15 countries. Kings Mountain muralist Clive Hayes will show his film “Beans, Beans, Beans.” A pass for all four nights is $15. Per night, passes are $7 each.
