In March the council voted to form its own department. Davis said Monday night he is looking forward to the slower pace which will allow him to get to know residents better. Over 40 people came out for the swearing in ceremony and a reception hosted by Grover Women’s Club. Many were eager to shake Davis’ hand. A red, white and blue cake read “Welcome Chief Davis.” Balloons hung around the building. Davis said he didn’t expect all the fanfare. The evening was filled with emotion as family members congratulated Davis on his new post. Several officers from KMPD were at the reception. He called resigning from Kings Mountain “one of the hardest things I've ever done.” “I left behind a perfect team. I'm going to miss them,” Davis 1e erald Published every Thursday Periodicals postage at Kings Mountain, NC 28086 USPS 118-880 by Republic Newspapers, Inc. Postmaster, send address changes to: P. O. Davis hopes to start a youth sports league to give teens something constructive to do. He also plans to form a com- munity watch. His new patrol car is equipped with a radar and speed limits will be enforced, Davis said. Grover Mayor Robert Sides said he was excited about the town again having its own department. Depending on the budget, the town may hire a second officer. The town has mutual aid agreements with nearby law enforcement agen- cies. “We're small but we may grow with time,” Sides said. As he addressed the crowd, it was obvious Davis was ready for the new challenge. “If you all need anything, call me,” he said. The room erupted in applause.
