BRYMER Staff Writer Approximately 215,656 minutes were spent reading this summer by participants in Mauney Memorial Library’s Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds summer pro- gram. “It was awesome,” said Christy Conner, children’ s librarian, “It was a neat topic, a true gem.” The program attracted 639 participants ages birth to 18. Parents read to the youngest children. The teens alone read 20,945 minutes in the Joust Read program. Friday morning The Almost Amazing Al performed during the Fairy Tale Ball held at Central United Methodist. Mayor Rick Murphrey, dressed as the king, pre- sented certificates to participants. Volunteers included Courtney Bolin, Celisa Bolch, Jennifer Vasey, Sam Brice, LIFESTVIES .. '2f take part r Reading Jonathan Brice, Kylee Wideman, Ariana Wingo, Brooke Conner, Kayla Absher, Patrick Ortega, John Gamble, Ker Medero, Stetson Abdi, Erica Carpenter, Linda Carpenter, Joyce Ledford, Elizabeth Bruche, Brenna Burgess, Chelsea Penner, Brandie Penner and Ashley Patel. Ryans Steak House, Sagesport, Kate's Skating Ring, Cleveland Cosmetology, Hair Chair, Stylin Salon, Chick-Fil-A Cleveland Music and the YMCA donated prizes. Kings Mountain Little Theatre loaned the costume Murphrey wore. Carpet Interiors donated the red carpet partici- pants walked down. Central United Methodist allowed the library to use its facility for several events during this sum- mer’s program. Conner is already working on next year’s program, Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales.
