A native of Cleveland
County, he was the son of
. the late David Jasper
and
Maudillian
Camp
McCarter.
He was
husband
for 50 years
to the late
Sady Harry
McCarter.
He was also preceded in
death by grandson, Jason
McCarter Olson, and broth-
ers Victor McCarter and
Durbro McCarter.
He was a very active
member of First Baptist
Church, Grover, where he
served as Deacon, Choir
Director and Sunday School
teacher. He was
Maintenance Engineer for
Minette Mills, Grover, for 54
years. He was a Grover
Town Commissioner for 17
‘years and the Mayor of
Grover for 16 years. He was
the first Chief of the Grover
Fire Department. He served
in the United States Army
Air Corp during World War
II. He was a loving father.
He is survived by his
daughters, Ann McCarter
Robinson and husband
Charley of Grover and
Susan McCarter Olson of
Lakeland, FL; three grand-
children, Cheryl Green and
husband Matthew, Cindy
Deal and husband Johnny
and Connie Robinson; and
five great-grandchildren,
Jason, Sara, Connor, Ariel
and John.
The funeral was conduct-
ed by the Revs. David Saldo,
Tony Fulbright and Paul
Sorrells at 4 p.m. Tuesday at
First Baptist Church.
Interment was in Grover
Cemetery.

Agnes Brady Cook, 87, 1212
Brookwood Drive, died
August 13, 2005 at Hospice
at Wendover.
A native of Cherryville,
she was the daughter of the
late John and Ella Turner
Brady. She was also preced-
ed in death by brothers John
Jr., Harlan and Ray Brady,
and sister Lozie Heavner.
She was retired from
Dover Yarn and was a
homemaker. She attended
First Baptist Church in
Kings Mountain.
She is survived by her
husband of 52 years, Clyde
Cook of the home; son
Steven Cook of Shelby;
daughter Frankie Gladden
of Kings Mountain; brother
Paul Brady and wife Pat of
Baltimore, MD; grandchil-
dren Bryon White of Kings
Mountain, Mary Anne
Wilson and husband Steve
of Gastonia, Brandon White
and wife Amanda of Kings
Mountain, Michael Cook of
Clovis, CA, and Andy Cook
of Shelby; great-grandchil-

Paul Edward Ostby, joined
his heavenly Father, Sunday,
August 14, 2005.
Rusty was born at Johnson
Air Force Base, Japan, on
September 26, 1960. He was
a ‘79 graduate of John T.
Hoggard High School where
he was an active participant
in the ROTC program. After
graduation, Rusty joined the
US Marine Corps complet-
ing his basic training at Paris
Island, S.C., and remained in
the service for six years. He
later worked for Vance
International traveling to
different states on security.
He joined his family in 1990
in their retail business at the
Cape Fear Christmas House.
Rusty was in charge of staff
training, providing the tech-
nical skills necessary to
maintain the store's comput-
er system, and security.

parents Lon and Nell Ostby;
two brothers, Joey Ostby of
Virginia Beach, VA., and
Daniel Ostby of Wilmington;
a niece, Nicole Ostby of

Church and worked as an
inspector in the textile
industry.
She is survived by her son,
James T. Caldwell of Shelby;
daughters Penny Caldwell
of Kings Mountain and
Margaret L. Caldwell and
Tonia Caldwell of Shelby;
sisters Doris Mertz and
Mary Farless of Grover and
Felicia Agner of Blacksburg,
SC; and three grandchildren.

at 6 p.m. Friday at Patterson
Springs Baptist Church.

Harry knew McCarter his
entire life, lived next door
to him for a while and
worked with him when the

Mills. McCarter ran the
maintenance department.
“He did a wonderful
job,” Harry said.
He complimented
McCarter’s record of service
to the town.
“Bill certainly gave a lot
to Grover,” Harry said.
McCarter was the first
chief of the Grover Fire
Department. Her served in
