Where was City Council? bothers me was to have the mayor of Shelby, mayor of Cherryville, Gaston Commissioner Joe Carpenter, Cleveland County 2 Commissioners Johnny To the editor: Hutchins and Jerry Self in I attended the town hall attendance, but not one elected meeting held at Kings official of the city of Kings Mountain City Hall on Mountain was in attendance. Wednesday, Aug. 10. I was hon- ored to welcome Congressman Patrick McHenry to our little home town, but most of all I was impressed on how the meeting was conducted. Congressman McHenry was introduced by County Commissioner Ronnie Hawkins. Congressman McHenry had a short state- ment, then proceeded to open the meeting up to questions or comments. No script. The meet- ing lasted from 7 p.m. until 10 p-m. McHenry made no attempt to duck any question or comment from the voters. No mayor and no council repre- sentative. After the meeting closed and I was shaking hands with McHenry I apologized to him for the absence of anyone repre- senting Kings Mountain. This elected representative had taken time that he had to rest and spend time with his family to come to Kings Mountain to listen to anyone who wanted to be heard on anything they had on their mind. I say shame on our elected officials that could not be respectful of this man to at least Lamar Fletcher Kings Mountain Thanks to KMPD for DWI program To the editor: I would like to thank Chief Melvin Proctor for allowing the Kings Mountain Police Traffic Division to talk to the young people at Midview Baptist Church on August 8. Under the leadership of Captain Jerry Tesseneer, they did an outstanding presentation on the dangers and repercus- sion of teens drinking and driv- ing. The demonstrations of the Fatal Vision Goggles by these officers had a very positive effect on the teenagers that were in attendance. The officers with Captain Tesseneer were Sgt. Brad Ptl. Lance Hamrick, Ptl. Mark Butler and Ptl. Kenny Stewart. I would highly recommend that all a in Kings Mountain contact the police department for this DWI demonstration by these fine officers. A sincere thank you to these men for this program that may save some teenagers from tak- ing a drink and driving. Operating the golf cart, while wearing the Fatal Vision Goggles, was a learning experi- ence for everyone. Sincerely, Bob Hayes Kings Mountain Vv Address Letters to The Editor, P.O.
