Officials ask that the public not bring contributions to the Shelby nor Kings Mountain office due to lack of space. Local volunteers on stand-by milk and baby bottles, napkins, paper plates and other paper items, personal care supplies like shampoo and soap, flashlights, batteries, plas- tic bags and duct tape. The following items should not be sent: unmarked goods, perishables, carbonated drinks, glass containers and damaged supplies. Monetary contributions may be made on line at www.redcross.org. Kings Mountain's electric depart- ment is on stand-by. Director Nick closed Saturday, Sept. 3 and Monday Sept. 5. The Patrick Senior Center will be closéd on Labor Day. Cleveland County Schools and Cleveland County Offices will be closed Sept. 5. Labor Day is a state holi- day and a bank holiday.Post they will be deployed. Shelters have been opened in Mississippi and Louisiana. The local volunteers are part of the Cleveland County Chapter’s dis- aster action team. The DAT team works locally to provide emergency housing and clothing assistance to victims of house fires and to set up armed forces. They notify soldiers of births, deaths and other family emergencies and help bring military personnel home. The activation of local National Guard units has increased their caseload and more volunteers are needed, Bolick said. .
