Ron Owens has his eyes
on the clouds. The Kings
Mountain man has started
Storm Spotters, a weather
tracking organization.
Owens first got interested
in weather seven years ago
as a young teenager. His
dream is to become a mete-
orologist.
Owens and other Storm
Spotters” members pile into
their Saturn vehicle when
bad weather is predicted.
They look for signs of tor-
nadoes and other phenome-
na. The group notes cloud
formations, cloud to ground
lightening and measures
hail. When they find it, the
team notifies NBC 6
Skymax and the National
Weather Service.
Storm Spotters members
come from Charlotte and
Gaston and Cleveland
counties. For more informa-
tion on the group, call
Owens at 704-477-3780 or

I just have to tell you
about my last week. I was
painting a 16 X 20 piece. It is
a jug with a lot of flowers
sitting on a table. Have you
ever tried to get a jug to sit
up straight and it just does
not want to cooperate. I
tried to add paint to one
side then to the other side
and still it would not go
straight.
My husband, who Aliavs
checks out my art work; said
to tie a rope around the jug
. and put it on a hook. Now,
that was being a smartie, but
I had about gotten to the
point that I thought about it.
Then he comes along and
says to just put this little bit
of paint right here and that
will make it stand up
my prob-
straight.
It
worked.
Now,
keep in
mind he
does not
paint,
but he
got seri-
ous about

lem and solved it for me.
Who says you have to be a
painter to solve a painting
problem? I got it finished
and framed and it looks dog
gone good too.
