The Kings Mountain Herald December 15, 2005 OBITUARIES KINGS MOUNTAIN POLICE REPORT IDA BREAKFIELD KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ida “Miss Ida” Rote Breakfield, 74, 415 Stroupe Alley, died December 9, 2005 at her resi- dence. She was a native of Buffalo, New York and daughter of the late Clifford and Viola Wack Rote. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Breakfield, and son Leon Latz. She was a cook at Mr. Waffle 104 in Blacksburg, SC and with Phyllis” 221 Truck Stop in Spartanburg, SC. She is survived by son Rick Latz and wife Trish of Kings Mountain, daughter Mary Ann Melton of the home, brothers Bert Tote and wife Alice of Kings Mountain and Billy Rote of Arizona, sister Viola Banko and husband Donald, Thelma Moss and husband Jerry, all of ~ Buffalo, NY; and grandchildren Robert Melton Jr., Cristy Latz, Sean Montgomery, Lisa Montgomery and Joshua Latz. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Michael Rote at 3 E .m. Tuesday at Sisk-Butler uneral Home Chapel, Bessemer City. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Melton Jr., Wayne Carpenter, Ricky Martin, Joshua Martin, Jason Pringle and Brian Pringle. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family. Sisk-Butler Funeral Home, Bessemer City, was in charge of arrangements. PAUL H. “LITTLE BILL” ROBERTS JR. KINGS MOUNTAIN - Paul | H. “Little Bill” Roberts Jr., 81, 112 Waco Road, died December 7, 2005 at Kings Mountain Hospital. He was born in Gaston County. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain. He is survived by cousins Elizabeth Bell of Kings Mountain and Rhonda Bell of Houston, Texas. He is also sur- vived by other family members and friends. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Nile Wilson on Friday, December 9 at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. : Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, P.O. Box 915, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. ; Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. CARL CHILDERS KINGS MOUNTAIN - Carl J. Childers, 85, 700 Meadowbrook Road, died December 12, 2005 at White Oak Manor. A native of Hickory Grove, SC, he was the son of the late James C. and Sallie Ila Moss Childers. He is survived by is wife, Edna Turner Childers of Kings Mountain, and daughter Pam Shillinglaw and husband A.M. of Kings Mountain. The funeral was conducted by Dr. Allan Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ERNEST B. WELLS GREENSBORO - Ernest B. Wells, 82, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2005, at Wesley Long Hospital. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at 12 noon at Westminster Gardens Church. Mr. Wells was born on July 9, 1923 in Cleveland County, one of nine children of William Michael and Sue Ellen Toney Wells. He served in the US Army during WW II. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1985 after 31 years of service. He then volunteered his time to the Athletic Boosters at Page High School, a past time he greatly enjoyed. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and sang with the Barber Shop Chorus in the early 60's. r. Wells was preceded in death by his parents and sib- lings, William “Bill” Wells and Nellie Gosh Surviving are his lovin e of 57 years, Mildred ra Wells of the home; children, Larry Wells and Paula Wells of Greensboro, Susan Vaughan of Kill Devil Hills, and Perry Wells and wife jo Ann of Richmond, VA. Siblings surviving are Boyce, Bob, and Toney Wells, all of Kings Mountain, Mary Woods and Betty Lou Johnson of Kings Mountain, and Shirley Holshouser of Charlotte. Nine grandchildren also survive. . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church Pastor Discretionary Fund, 3600 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410. ROBERT C. ROBBS GASTONIA - Robert C. Robbs, 73, resident of Century Care, Gastonia, formerly of Kings Mountain, died December 11, 2005 at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. He was born in Cherokee County, SC, son of the late James Howard and Bunah Humphries Robbs. He was also preceded in death by his broth- ers, Lyman Robbs and Buford Robbs. He was retired from ! Gwaltney Foods in Smithville, VA and was a United States Air Force veteran serving in England. He is survived by son Carl Robbs of Shelby, daughter Debbie Russel of Kings Mountain, brother Johnny Robbs and wife Doris of Shelby, sisters Faye Tate and husband Vernon of Charlotte, Jewel Warlick of Charlotte, Helen Tate and husband Oliver of Kings. Mountain, and Louise Foster of -Hampton, VA, and two grand- children. A private family service was held Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Rev. Jim Tate officiated. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC a28054. He was also preceded in death by two brothers. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, Kings Mountain, where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class. He served in the United States Army during World War II and he was a - member of the Last Man's Club. He was retired from KMG Minerals, Kings Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Roper Payne of Kings Mountain; daughters Cathy P. Crisp and husband Gary of Kings Mountain and Donna P. Williams and husband Austin of Kings Mountain; brothers Calvin Payne of Kings Mountain and Joe Payne of Statesville; grandchildren Jada Dawes and husband Brian of Washington Courthouse, OH, Summer Crisp Self and hus- band Mike of Cherryville, and Jordan Crisp of Kings Mountain; and great-grandchil- dren Laura Leigh Dawes and William Michael Dawes. ELSIE PUTNAM ROSS GROVER - Elsie Putnam Ross, 92, 203 Carolina Venue, died December 10, 2005 at Cleveland Regional Hospital. A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lee Putnam and Sadie Foster Putnam. She was the wife of the late Grady Lee Ross. The funeral was conducted by Dr. Tony Fulbright and the Rev. David Saldo at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptiot Church. Interment was in Grover Cemetery.
