cor ON ana ™ a January 19, 2006 LOCAL The Kinss Mountain Herald North fourth grade students study famous baseball players Students in the fourth grade at North Elementary School recently studied famous base- ball players. Many aspects were covered, such as loyalty, courage, perseverance and self discipline. Students were able to discov- er how Lou Gehrig, Roberto Clemente and Jackie Robinson used the above character traits to succeed in their life long dreams of becoming profession- al baseball players. Excelling in the traits also made them some of the elite. Contributing to the class dis- cussion and unit study was Kings Mountain's Tyler Leach. He shared with both fourth grade classes the trials and struggles he was confronted with during his middle and high school career. He shared some of the events leading to his decision to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals, even though Virginia Tech had offered him a package to attend that school. He said that having the courage not to follow the crowd and to stand on your own is hard, but he persevered. or his success, he didn’t take credit but gave all of that to God for the ability to play and have the talent. Leach played the fall season with the Johnson City, TN team and then played the extended season in Florida. He is looking forward to following his dreams to the big leagues.
