Re mig a Ape = a Ey — February 2, 2006 The Kings Mountain Herald LUCY ANDERSON KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Lucy Anderson, 76, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2006 after an extended illness of ALS. A memorial service was held at Central United Methodist Church with visi- tation fol- lowing on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 10 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, daugh- ter Mary Katherine Anderson, sister Katherine G. Douglas, and great- grandson Kevin Alexander Green. She was born October 10, 1929 in East Point, GA and was the daughter of the late Jesse L. and Mary L. Gilmer. She was a Christian, a homemaker, a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Adult Fellowship Sunday School class, and the UMW Circle #7. She is survived by her lov- ing husband of 57 years, Kenneth Anderson; daugh- ter Susan A. Bridges and husband Michael Sr; sons Edward B. Anderson and wife Elaine, Steven L. Anderson Sr. and wife Melanie, and Richard Anderson Jr. and wife Janice, all of Kings Mountain. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Michael L. Bridges Jr. and wife Amanda of Union Grove, Sherri B. Green and husband Kevin, Stefanie M., Richard A. Jr., Krista L., Shannon E., Elizabeth B. and Steven L. Anderson II; and one great- grandson, Logan M. Green, all of Kings Mountain. Also surviving are sister Margaret G. Pryse of Greenville, PA and nine nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. OLLAND PEARSON KINGS MOUNTAIN - Olland Pearson, 94, 211 Fairview Street, died January 26, 2006 at White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Stanley Robert and Emma Jane Hawkins Pearson. He was husband of the late Iva Lee Falls Pearson. He was also pre- ceded in death by brothers Tillman Pearson, Flay Pearson, S.R. Pearson, Everette Pearson, Arthur “Chippy” Pearson and Roy Pearson; and sister Lona Mae Gaddy. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, Kings Mountain. He was retired from the textile industry. He served on the Kings Mountain City Council from 1951-1953. He coached base- ball and softball Mill League teams in Kings Mountain. He was a good father and grandfather and a wonder- ful neighbor. He is survived by his son, Harold Dean Pearson and wife Diane of Richmond, VA; daughter Shirley Mayes and husband Gene of Kings Mountain; sister Roberta Cobb of Shelby; grandchil- dren Jackie Putnam and Chris Pearson; and great- grandchildren Jason and Brandon Putnam. The funeral was conduct- ed by the Revs. Don Williams and Eddie Gray at 4 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2006 at First Wesleyan Church. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. CLYDE HAMMETT KINGS MOUNTAIN - Clyde Hammett, 59, 731 Margrace Road, died January 26, 2006 at his home. A native of Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Oscar Leroy and Estelle Parker Hammett and hus- band of the late Donna Lynn Hammett. He was retired from Parkdale Mills #5, Kings Mountain. The funeral was held at 2 p-m. Saturday at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. OWEN HUFFSTICKLER FOREST CITY - Owen Albert Huffstickler, 94, 138 Hardin Road, formerly of Kings Mountain, died January 28, 2006 at his home. He was a native of Gaston County. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a retired farmer and textile employee. He was a member of Cherokee Street Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. He served in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Lorena McFalls Bradley Huffstickler of Forest City; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was conduct- ed by the Revs. Danny McCain and Phillip Robbins at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, Kings Mountain. ESTELLE EARNHARDT KINGS MOUNTAIN - Estelle Miller Earnhardt, 86, 200 Walker St., died January 30, 2006 at White Oak Manor. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Isaac W. Jenkins and Willie Rebecca Stewart Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Lee Roy Miller. The funeral will be con- ducted by the Rev. Mike Johnson at 3 p.m. Thursday at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Students encouraged to enter Emma Drum poetry contest Students of Cleveland County are invited to partici- pate in the sixth annual Erma Drum Poetry Festival. An original poem written in the current school year may be submitted in one of seven cat- egories: preschool, K-2, 3-4, 5, 6-8, 9-12 and college (2 & 4 year). Awards will be given in each of the categories. Each participant will receive a keepsake certificate. Deadline for entries is March 9 by 5 p.m. at the Cleveland County Arts Council. FRANK CHILDERS KINARDS, SC - Frank “Dickie” Childers, 62, 283 Fairview Church Road, died Thursday, January 26, 2006 in the Hospice House of Greenwood. He was born in Gaffney and was a son of the late Charlie J. and Mary Scruggs Childers. He was a retired employee of Sumter Builders Inc. and a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Newberry. He is survived by his wife, Jean Gantt Childers of the home; son, Frankie Childers Jr. of Laurens; four daugh- ters, Recynthia Childers Harriston of Kings Mountain, Holly Childers and Mary Childers McCumber, both of Kinards, and Amy Childers Dubose of Summerton, SC; three brothers, Harry Childers of Cartersville, GA, Charles Childers of Sanford, NC and Wayne Childers of Shelby; one sister, Lillie Mae Ruff of Kings Mountain; a half- brother, Billy Short of Gaffney; a half-sister, Connie Melton of Gaffney, and 20 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Steven Alexander Childers. The funeral was conduct- ed at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2006 at Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton.
