Damage to the Croft vehicle
was $2,500 and damage to
the Hamrick vehicle was
$3,000. Croft's vehicle
became airborne and rolled
several times and Croft was
thrown from the vehicle and
hit the pavement. The vehi-
cle continued on the road-
way and came to rest in a
ditch. Croft was taken by
Cleveland Regional EMS to
Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The investigation is ongo-
ing.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Annette West Chen, 50, 704 W. Gold
Street, died May 24, 2006 at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the
late Bob West. She was a member of South Gastonia
Pentecostal Holiness Church and worked in the textile indus-

Gina of Kings Mountain, and Jaobond Chen of Kings
Mountain; daughter Melissa Bolin Merritt and husband
James of Kings Mountain; mother Colleen Wykle Philbeck
and husband Ed Philbeck of Kings Mountain; brothers Will
West of Orleans, IN and Keith West of Kings Mountain; sis-
ters Tonra Heffernan of Kings Mountain and Pam West
Edwards of Gastonia; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Tim Whitaker and
Barry Philbeck at 4 p.m. Friday at Ollie Harris Memorial
Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to defray the cost of the funeral to
Tim Whitaker, 604 Wind Wood Drive, Gastonia, NC 28056.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Jacob R. Knox, 71, of White Oak
Manor, died May 26, 2006 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Clover, SC, he was the son of the late John
Jackson Knox and the late Viola McCarter Knox. He was also
preceded in death by brothers Joseph Leander Knox, John
Jackson Knox Jr, and George Waldo Knox; and sisters
Marion K. Breakfield and Nell K. Love.
. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kings
Mountain and was employed by Threads Textiles.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret K. “Peggy”
Aderholdt of Kings Mountain.
A graveside service was conducted by the Rev. Lee Thomas
at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Dale Greene was recently promoted to the rank of Major
within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Greene is a native and resident of Kings Mountain and is
the son of Mary and Herman Greene.
His 21-year career has spanned assignments in Patrol,
Investigations, Administration, Canine, SWAT, and his most
recent was Training and Recruitment Director for the depart-
ment. His new assignment will be Special Operations
Commander which encompasses Tactical Operations, HITS,
Crime Scene and Animal Control.
He was promoted during Police Week festivities at the
CMPD Training Academy. His wife Connie, son Christopher

She was born in Cleveland County. She was preceded in
death by her paternal grandmother, Patricia Barnett Causby.
She was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church.
She is survived by her mother, Kelly Leann Toney of Kings
