The Kings Mountain Herald Valerie Boyd graduates Valerie ‘Boyd, principal of Bethware Elementary School, Kings Mountain, graduated May 5 from the nationally recognized Leadership Program for Experienced Principals CLPXPY, offered by jt h e Principals’ gd Executive Program (PE) BOYD of ® the University of North Carolina. One of 48 principals select- Je ed statewide to participate in ls the rigorous, 11-day pro- gram, Boyd completed close to 100 hours of classroom instruction over a four- month period. Major areas of ‘study included teacher effec- tiveness, instructional improvement, school finance, teacher support, Phillip White wins from Leadership Program data analysis, technology utilization, diversity, integri- ty and vision. Books and articles on school improve- ment and leadership, stu- dent development, and school improvement were read and discussed. “The goal of the program,” explained Program Director Dr. Chris Hitch, “is to help principals better understand their roles, refine their skills, and become more effective school leaders. The Leadership Program for Experienced Principals allows school leaders time to think about improvement that can be made for their students, and share ideas with other principals.” Boyd joins a growing group of educators to suc- cessfully complete the lead- ership course offered by PEP, the longest running organi- zation of its kind in the nation. a Young Authors Award four elementary schools in Charlotte. ** ; Representatives from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority honored Young Authors and High School Scholarship winners at a Chapter Awards Luncheon May 21 at ‘West Charlotte ‘High School. At the event, Phillip was the recipient ‘of an Awards Certificate, a U.S. Savings Bond, and a bound copy of his award-winning story. | Phillip is the son of Mirion and Audrey White of Charlotte. They raised $403 by paying one dollar each for a water balloon which they got to throw at Principal Jerry Hoyle. Probably the best thing of all is that Mr. Hoyle and P.E. teacher Barry Webster retaliated by throwing and shooting water on the students.
