But as the summer allows a time for relaxation to students and teachers, scholarly decisions still have ‘to be made. The hot topic for board members at the meet- ing, was their strategic plan for finding the right man or woman to fill the shoes of Superintendent Gene Moore, who is retiring and relocating to Lancaster, SC this summer. - Allison Schafer from the North Carolina School Board Association (NCSBA), returned from last meeting to guide the board into making decisions on their deadline, application and surveys for the Superintendent search. u y { Ryan Perkins, Summer Wooten, Trequawn Torres, Kaylee Truett, Caitlyn Vestal, Katelynn McKinney, Kayla Hoyle, Roxy Vess, Dashawn Springs. It will be linked onto the Cleveland County School Board's website at www.clevelandcoun- tyschools.org, the NCSBA website at www.ncsba.org, and possibly a few other free sites. They agreed to pay $500 to advertise on NCSBA’s website for 8 weeks. After some debate, the Board unanimously approved the timeline that holds an application dead- line of August 23rd, which Schafer said gives them “the most time to advertise.” “The more you advertise, the longer you have for the word to get out there,” she said. The Board decided to make a slight change to the text on the ad before voting to approve it. Members then moved to the application, making few changes to the questions. Board Member Tommy Greene asked Schafer if she has found the application, in the past, to be thorough. “It’s very thor- ough and sometimes candi- dates say it’s really thorough. It’s a lot of work for them but it gives the board a lot of information to look at so you can make an informed deci- sion,” she replied. After some discussion, members unani- mously agreed on the revised application. Then, Schafer directed the Board to look at the surveys she had provided in their packets. After some addi- tions and changes, the board approved the survey. A link to it will be available on the CCSB website and hard copies will be available at the public libraries and central offices for those who would like to mail their comments in. Schafer said that the sur- veys will be totally anony- mous unless the public chooses to identify them- selves. “Also, just so you know, we cannot go back in and change the surveys. We have a block on there. So if they enter something with a typo or it’s grammatically incorrect, we will not be able to fix it,” she said. “That keeps the integrity of the sur- vey. People with multi- ple e-mails could fill out the surveys multiple times. But people with one e-mail address would only be able to fill it out once. After all of the small changes were made to the advertisement, appli- cation, and surveys, the board unanimously agreed to get the ball rolling in hopes that the next one who picks it up may be their new superintendent.
