RL — CS i 0 SPEET m— OBITUARIES DR. MILTON M. HAGEN KINGS MOUNTAIN - Dr. Milton Hagen, 82, 245 Dixon School Road, died August 2, 2006 at Kings Mountain Hospital. He was born in Cooperstown, ND. He was son of the late Martin J. and Helga Bye Hagen. Mountain, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, having taught the Men's Bible Class for 30 years and also served as a lay leader. ; He was a retired administrator of Gaston College. He served in the United States Army during World War Ilin the European and Pacific Theatres, serving on hospital ships. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a devoted fol- lower of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Harriet Ellicott Hagen of Kings Mountain; sons Dr. Erik Hagen of Columbus, OH and Dr. Tory Hagen of Corvallis, OR; daugh- ter Kristen Hagen Harry and husband Rev. Randolph Harry of Brevard; sister Evelyn Hazard of Janesville, MN; and three grandchildren, Ellie Hagen, Ben Hagen and Wren Harry. A memorial service was conducted by the Revs. Danielle Duncan and Randolph Harry at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church. Lightsey, 72, 102 St. Gaudens Court, passed away quietly Friday, August 4, 2006 at Gaston Memorial Hospital after a life long battle with asthma. Born in Ballinger, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Nichols Knight and Alta Mimi Taylor Knight. She was a mother, mentor and teacher of her five children. She was extremely proud of her service with the Gaston Memorial Auxiliary and was a member since March of 1982. Offices held were Auxiliary President 1986-1987, Helpline Chair, Critical Care Chair, Emergency Room Chair and Legislative Liaison. She was instrumental in the process of installing lifelines in many families’ homes. She was also President of the North Carolina Society of Hospital Volunteers / Auxilians. She is survived by her husband, Noel Wilson Lightsey of Kings Mountain; sons Ray Lightsey and wife Robin of Kings Mountain, Joel Lightsey of Palmer, Mass., and Jimmy Lightsey of Concord, NC; sister Mary Jan Ligameri of Georgetown, Texas; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grand- children. The funeral was held Monday, August 7, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, Kings Mountain. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. hy REBECCA SHERFIELD GROVER - Mrs. Rebecca Louise Davis Sherfield, 71, 831 Long Branch Road, formerly of Lincolnton, died August 5, 2006. Her funeral was held Tuesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel, Lincolnton, with Rev. Tony McCraw and Rev. Jeff Hogan Jr. officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery. A native of Laurens County, SC, Mrs. Sherfield was the daughter of the late James and Ethel Reeder Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Sherfield, daughter Maggie Sherfield, and brother J.W. Davis. She is survived by her daughters, Vicky S. Weaver of Kings Mountain, Charlene S. Mitchem of Lincolnton, Teresa Sherfield of Grover, Linda S. Anderson of Waco and Brenda S. Barrett of Conway, SC; brothers James Davis, Ray Davis and Willis Davis, all of Waterloo, SC, sister Sadie Fuller of Laurens, SC, 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchildren. Grover, KM residents get prison sentences in Shelby drug case One Grover and two Kings Mountain residents were among 19 persons receiving active prison sentences in connection with a Shelby cocaine trafficking organiza- tion that the Department of Justice says it has now dis- mantled. The announcement comes on the heels of Thursday's . sentencing hearing before Chief U.S. District Court Judge Robert J. Conrad Jr. of defendant Jeffrey Ezekiel Becks, 30 of Cherryville, who was the last person sen- tenced in the case. According to The Department of Justice, the investigation code-named “Operation Rated P-G” for Putnam and Gardner Streets in Shelby, came into federal court in October 2004 with the filing of a 42-count feder- al bill of indictment. Kings Mountain residents sentenced were: -Thurnel . Thomas Williams, 40, of 213 East Ridge Street. He received a sentence of 20 years in feder- al prison followed by a 10- year supervised release. He has been in custody since February 27, 2006. - Lenny Lee Craig, 47, of 823 Cleveland Avenue. He received eight months in fed- eral prison followed by five years supervised release. He has been in custody since October 17, 2005. Also sentenced was William Lamont Haynes of OFFICER From 1A tim and had injuries.” Coburn was released from custody at 10 am, after talk- ing with magistrate Pam Patterson. There was no bond set for Coburn, as he is not considered a flight risk. A court date is set at the Cleveland County Courthouse for Friday, August 18, 2006.
