Kings Mountain High's
men’s soccer team opened its
regular season Monday
night at John Gamble
Stadium with a 3-0 win over
Hunter Huss.
Chris Miller gave the
Mountaineers an early lead
with a header. He was assist-
ed by Brandon Mitchell, who
had thrown the ball into play.
Tony Chanthaphaeng
scored later in the first half
off a free kick from 30 yards
free kick from 25 yards out,
again putting the ball in the
upper part of the near post
out of the keeper's reach.
Kings Mountain had 24
shots on goal. Brandon
Mitchell had a couple of
good looks but came up
short, and Chris Greene had
a few shots on goal.
Townsend Haynes played
a great game at goal to record
the shutout.
Other outstanding offen-
sive players were Chris
Skibo, Paul Mansfield,
Andrew Turner and Ben
Galloway.
“They all gave us solid
defense,” said Coach Erik
Price. “We needed it because
Huss kept the pressure on us
until the very end.”
The Mountaineers hoped
to keep the momentum
going in a home game
against Crest Wednesday.
