| OBITUARIES SE EUGENE GOFORTH KINGS MOUNTAIN - Eugene Marvin Goforth, 87, 817 Landing Street, died April 14, 2007 at Kings Mountain Hospital. He was born in Cass County, ND. He was the son of the late Ransom DeShea Goforth and Florence Mae Morrow Goforth. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Frances Annabell Goforth. He was a member of Central United Church, Kings Methodist Mountain. He was a wonderful athlete, avid fisherman and bird hunter. He graduated from Kings Mountain High School where he still holds sports records. He was inducted into the Kings Mountain Hall of Fame in 1992. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He also played semi-pro baseball. He was retired from Lithium Corporation. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Faye Moss Goforth of Kings Mountain; son William D. “Rocky” Goforth of Smyrna, SC; daughters Jean Goforth Burns of Gastonia and Janice Goforth Pittman and husband Robert “Buddy” Pittman of Clover, SC; sister Mildred Myers and hus- band Walter D. of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren, Brady DeShay Goforth and wife Anita, Casey Goforth Lockler and husband Joseph; Anna Jean Burns, Tony Dustin Myers and David Chase Myers; and two great-grandchildren, Payton DeShay Goforth and Natalie Shay Myers. He was a retired healthcare con- sultant, a member of First Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain and was a United States Air Force veteran with service during the Korean War. She was the daughter of the late John E... Childers and Ethel Farris Childers. She was also pre- ceded in death by her sister, Betty Ruth Hughes. She was s devoted member of Pineville Church of the Nazarene where she was the children’s Sunday School teacher, Director of Missions, and the Missionary President. She also sang in the choir. She enjoyed playing music, sewing, and she greatly cher- ished her family and grandchil- dren and loved spending time with them. She was retired from Jones © and Presnell Studio, Charlotte. A ELVIN “RED” BROWN KINGS MOUNTAIN - Elvin “Red” Brown, 87, of White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2007 at Kings Mountain Hospital. He was born in Lancaster, SC. He was the son of the late Jasper Cary and Annie Elizabeth Davis Brown. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Margie Gladden Brown, and his second wife, Ellease Ford Brown. He was-a member of First Wesleyan Church with 34 years of perfect attendance. He was a former employee of Sadie Mills, Kings Mountain, and he was retired from Burlington Mills, Kings Mountain, where he was supervisor for 35 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the America Legion Otis Green Post and a member of the Shelby Moose Lodge. He loved to ride motorcycles and he also loved walking, camping, dancing, laughing and just having a good time. He is survived by his sons, Mike Brown and wife Cindy of Kings Mountain, “Brod” Brown and wife Dolores of Zephyrhills, FL; daughters Elizabeth “Liz” Hill and hus- band J.C. of Kings Mountain and Janice “Jan” Deaton and hus- band Clarence of Kings Mountain; sister Effie Thigpen of Gastonia; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. During previous church memberships he served as Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and church treasurer. He was a retired Technical Writer for Western-Digital and NCR Corp. He was an avid bowler and the best husband, and Elvin: The Kings Mountain Herald grandfather and doggy daddy. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Finishing touches put on Patriots Park Kings Mountain Rotary Club is putting the finishing touches on a two-year $85,000 beautification project at Patriots Park. A splash area, park benches, a picnic area and trash receptacles will be in place by next weekend and a Patriot (star) design will be painted on the concrete spray pad and a fence will be erected between the road and splash pad for safety of youngsters playing in the area. A rose garden, flower beds and sidewalks have added to the beautification of the park. Dennis Conner, chairman of the project, said Rotarians are anxious to have all the park amenities up and running for children to enjoy this spring and summer. Conner said the local civic club stepped up to sponsor the first phase of the project when city leaders approached them about budgeting money to help with park improvements. Surviving in addition to his parents is a son, Paul Edward “Trey” ” Wheeler, ‘HI of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Dakota Elizabeth Grace Wheeler of Spartanburg, SC; three sisters, Michelle Wheeler Hatchette and her husband Rick, and Lori Lee Wheeler Putnam, all of Spartanburg, SC, and Kassie Wheeler Worthy and her hus- band Tim of Roebuck, SC; his maternal grandmother, Katherine Blackburn Lemmons of Inman, SC; a niece, Chelsea Lee Sue Putnan of Spartanburg, SC; two nephews, Corey Isaiah Wayne Putnam of Spartanburg, SC, and Timothy Dalton Worthy of Roebuck, SC; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
