Kings Mountain High's
women’s soccer team picked up
right where they left off at Easter
by posting 4-0 shutouts over R-S
Central Monday and Burns
Tuesday.
Dan Potter’s ladies are now 5-0
in the Southwestern 2A/3A
Conference and 14-2 overall.
They face Western North
Carolina power Asheville, a top
ten-ranked 3A team, on the road
Friday, and battle one of the
state’s top-ranked 2A teams,
Shelby, Monday at Shelby.
Ramey Kerns led the KM
offense against R-S with a hat
trick and the KM defense and
goalkeeper Lauren Suber record-
ed their ninth shutout of the sea-
son. 4
Kerns put the Mountaineers
out front midway of the first half
off a perfect pass from Bennett
Suber.
“We were a bit frustrated with
the opportunities we had and
couldn't finish in the first half,”
said Coach Potter.
As the second half began, it
became apparent that the
Mounties would be finding the
The Kings Mountain Herald
net with more regularity.
Kerns scored on two more
occasions off super passes from
Katie Cooke and Tayler Deaton.
Ashley Witherspoon scored
KM'’s final goal off another fine
pass from Bennett Suber.
The Mountaineer defense was
outstanding, limiting the visitors
to just four shots during the
match.
“Kelli Bolt, Caitlyn Suber,
Tayler Deaton and sweeper
Jennifer Lingg did a fantastic job
of denying the ball to the R-S
attackers,” Potter said.
B Against Burns Tuesday,
Kerns again got the KM offense
going with a goal 14 minutes into
‘the match. Ashley Witherspoon
got the assist.
Seven minutes later, Katie
Cooke was on the end of a fan-
tastic set-up from Meagan
Reynolds to make it 2-0.
Although the Mounties would
threaten often, the Bulldogs held
them scoreless the rest of the
half.
In the second period, Bennett
Suber hit a nice outside shot that
kickers blank R-S, Burns
went over the keeper’s head and
just under the crossbar to make
the score 3-0. Reynolds was
again credited with the assist.
The final goal was scored by
Megan Loftin, who received a
fine pass at the top of the box
from Vanessa Sidavong with 20
minutes left. Lauren Suber came
up with a fine deflection to pre-
serve the shutout.
“We are really proud of the
way we defend and take great
pride in recording shutout as a
team,” Potter said.
