ROBERT FE. RAMSEY
BESSEMER CITY - Robert E Ramsey, 76, 129 Horseshoe Circle,
died May 1, 2007 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
He was born in Cleveland County. He was the son of the late
Harvey General Douglas Ramsey and Carrie Louise Pruett Ramsey.
He was also preceded in death by brothers Melvin Ramsey and Fred
Ramsey and sisters Aileen Ramsey Metcalf and
Betty Jo Ramsey.
He was a retired auto mechanic and served in
the United States Air Force during the Korean
Conflict.
He is survived by his stepson Bill Whiteside of
Gastonia; daughters Debra Ramsey Grant and
husband Tim of Eden, and Mary Ramsey Worthy
and husband William of Kings Mountain; brother
Harold Ramsey of Kings Mountain; four grand-
children, three step-grandchildren, five great-
grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, and
numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was conducted by the Rev. Jeff Stacy at 3 p.m.
Friday, May 4, 2007 at Grover Cemetery.

S/SGT. MICHAEL R. HULLENDER
BUFORD, GA. - Staff Sgt. Michael R. Hullender, 29, of Winder, GA,
was killed in active duty in Iraq on Saturday, April 28, 2007.
He was the grandson of Kings Mountain natives Ralph and
Geraldine Cobb Hullender. Mr. Hullender is the brother of Bob
Hullender of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Hullender is the brother of
Jack Cobb of Kings Mountain.
Staff Sgt. Hullender was born December 20, 1977 in DeKalb
County, GA. He was a 1996 graduate of Norcross High School where
he played offensive line and linebacker in football and also was a
member of the Civil Air Patrol. He attended West Georgia: College,
majoring in business.
Staff Sgt. Hullender, a medic, joined the Army in 1998. He prepared
wounded soldiers for medical transport when he was killed. He also
parachuted with other soldiers into Afghanistan soon after the
September 11th attack. He was awarded a Bronze Star and also
earned numerous medals and recognitions including the National
Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary
Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
He is survived by his father, Ren and Tammy Hullender of Winder,
GA; mother Cindy Wilkins Malmo of Little Falls, NJ; sisters Lisa and
David Filkins of Jasper, GA and Amy and Chuck Ford of Grayson,
GA; grandparents Ralph and Gerry Hullender of Buford, GA; step
brothers Steven Peele and Jason Peele of Winder, GA; step sister
Chelsea Peele of Winder, Ga; aunt Ann and Tim McNeil of Buford,
GA; uncle Chuck Wilkins of New Jersey; and fiancee Miss Kyle
Harper of Elliott, ME.
The funeral’ was conducted’ by’ the Rev: "Mark Byrd at 2 p.m.
Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Sugar” Hill United Methodist Church, Sugar
Hill, GA. Interment was in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens, Buford,
GA, with full military honors.
Donations may be made to www.freedomalliance.org, an organi-
zation that awards scholarships to the children of fallen soldiers, in
memory of Staff Sgt. Michael R. Hullender.
Arrangements were by Junior E. Flanigan of Flanigan Funeral
Home and Crematory, Buford, GA.
DEWEY M. MURRAY
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Dewey M. Murray, 88, 406 Wilson Street,
died May 2, 2007 at Hospice at Wendover, Shelby.
He was born in Rutherford County. He was the son of the late
Harlan and Bea Jones Murray. He was the husband of the late Minnie
Early Murray.
He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He served
in the United States Army during World War II. He was retired from
the textile industry.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue Anne Mitchem of Kings
Mountain; grandchildren Brian Cloninger and wife Mary of Kings
Mountain, and Rebecca Heath of Kings Mountain; and four great-
grandchildren, Jackson, Hope and Emma Cloninger and Mac
Runyon.
The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Janice Combs at 11 a.m.
Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Central United Methodist Church. Burial
was in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

GUY FRANKLIN ‘TOM’ MELTON
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Guy Franklin “Tom” Melton, 69, 211
Margaret Street, died May 6, 2007 at his home.
He was born in Rutherford County, son of the late C. Baxter and
Hanna Mae Melton. He was also preceded in
death by his infant son, Tommy Dale Melton, sis-
ter Lillian Harrison, and sister-in-law Priscilla
Melton.
He was a retired supervisor for Foote Mineral
Corp. in Kings Mountain and was an employee of
Buckeye Fire Equipment, Inc. in Kings Mountain
for the past 15 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving
in the United States Navy on the USS Yorktown.
He was a member of the American Legion Post
155 in Kings Mountain.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Cleveland County,
White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, Regency Hospital of
Greenville, SC, ICU of Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby,
and Dr. Christian Anderson in Kings Mountain.
He is survived by his son, Guy Franklin “Sam” Melton Jr. and wife
“Charlotte of Gastonia; daughter Gina Melton Flowers and husband
Jeffrey of Cramerton; special granddaughter Tiffany Farmer Durst;
brothers Randall Dixon and wife Joyce of Georgia, Harry Melton of
Belmont, and Billy Melton and wife Becky of Wilmington; sister
Helen McAbee and husband Brooks of Kings Mountain; grandchil-
dren Jonathan and Ashley Bentley; dear friend Leslie Hinson; loving
caretaker Rita Sturgeon; and many special nieces and nephews.
A private funeral was held with the Rev. James Lochridge officiat-
ing. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

KAY PEARSON
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Kay Pearson, 56, 101 Myers Street, died May
2,2007 at her home.
She was a native of Cleveland County. She was an employee of
Bunch, Inc. in Kings Mountain. She was a loving and devoted wife,
mother and grandmother who had a beautiful laugh.
She is survived by her husband, Claude “Bub” Pearson of Kings
Mountain; son Shane Pearson and wife Carrie of Parker, CO; daugh-
ter Jennifer Pearson of Grover; grandchildren Caitie, Jordan, Mariah,
Alleya and Sydney; parents Nelson and Lela Dixon of Kings
Mountain; and sisters Arlene, Brenda and Diane.
The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Brent Griggs at 2 p.m.
‘Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Interment
was in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

GASTONIA - Garteul Lee “Bud” Grigg, 80, 1931 Mountainbrook
Drive, died Friday, May 4, 2007 at his home. PATRI
Carrie Davis Grigg. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby
Grigg, and five brothers and sisters.
He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and retired
from Anvil Knit in Kings Mountain.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Patterson Grigg of Gastonia; sons
Mike Grigg and wife Sylvia of Smyrna, SC and Robert Grigg Jr. of
Gastonia; brothers Jerry Grigg of Gastonia and Gene Grigg of Shelby;
sisters Faye McInnes of Kings Mountain and Eloise Huffstetler of
Kings Mountain; grandchildren Michelle Grigg Short and husband
Brad of Grover, and Michael Grigg of Smyrna, SC; and great-grand-
children Alexis, Brooklyn and Camden Short.
A graveside service was conducted by Steve Grigg on Sunday, May
6, 2007 at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
