East Lincoln took advantage of three KM errors to cut the mar- gin to 6-5 in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, KM scored five more runs to take an 11-5 lead. Hutchins led off with a single and an error and inten- tional walk to Brown loaded the bases. Johnson ripped a two-run double and Funderburke had a two-run single. East Lincoln scored its final two runs in the top of the fifth as Brown, who had pitched the pre- vious day to force a playoff, began to tire. Hutchins came in and got out of the sixth with an inning-end- ing double play. East put two runners on with one out in the seventh, but a runner attempting to steal third was called out because of interference by the batter, and Hutchins got the bat- ter to fly out to end the game. “It was a good game, back and forth,” noted Coach Deaton. “There were a lot of tight situa- tions for both teams. We made some mistakes but we overcame four errors. They also had four errors so everything sort of washed out there. We just hit the ball more than they did. They did have some good hits too, and rallies. We just never relin- quished the momentum. The kids stayed in the game and played hard. It was one of our better games.” The win gave the Patriots their fourth straight division title and put them in the conference championship game for the third time - every year since the con- ference has held an overall championship game. 210 East King St. 704-739-3953 Proud Sponser of: By Michael Frayn Life - Auto - Home - Property - Commercial John Caveny and Associates Kings Mountain, NC 28086 NE May 11th, 12th 18th & 19th 7:30 PM May 13th 3:00 PM Directed by: Stan Logan T ), A ————————————————
