OBITUARIES BOBBY WAYNE HUSSEY DENVER, NC - Bobby Wayne Hussey, 67, died on Tuesday, June 26 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born on April 2, 1940 in Seagrove, NC to Rosa and James Bertie Hussey. A veteran of over 30 years as a college basketball coach, he served as a head coach for 20 years at Belmont Abbey, Davidson and Virginia Tech. The 1963 graduate of Appalachian State began his head coaching career at Kin g.8 Mountain High in North Carolina where he post- ed a 67-6 record over four years. From there he moved on to Belmont Abbey. as a head coach. He fin- ished with a 179-111 record at the school, including 96-31 in his final four years. Hussey became a Division I head coach at Davidson College. Between 1981-89, he led the Wildcats to 108 victories, includ- ing a Southern Conference Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 1985- 86. He served as an assistant coach at Clemson for the 1989-90 sea- son when the Tigers finished 26- 10 and won the ACC regular sea- son championship. That team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. - Hussey became an assistant coach at Virginia Tech from 1991- 97. The Hokies won the NIT Championship in 1995 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 1996. In 1997-98, he became the head coach at Virginia Tech, a position he held for two seasons. He then returned to Clemson for three seasons and completed his college coaching career in 2002-03 with the Tigers. Hussey’s passion for life showed both on and off the bas- ketball court. As a coach and mentor, he w=touched the livesof~countless student-athletes and coaches over the past 30-plus years. As a husband, father and friend, he was simply the perfect role model. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra, of Denver, NC; sons, Bo and wife Christie of Charlotte, NC, and Greg of Columbia, SC; brother Jerry of Asheboro, NC; sister Carolyn Webb of Greensboro, NC; sister Betty Dunlap of Robbins, NC; sister Shirley and husband Coy Jarrell of Randleman, NC; sister- in-laws Nancy D. Wilson of Charlotte, NC, and Ruth Hussey of Seagrove, NC; granddaughter Erika; many nieces and nephews; and his long-time canine com- panion Holmes. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Garland, Archie and Sherman Hussey. Funeral services were conduct- ed on Friday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Denver United Methodist church. He was the son of the late Garlie and Earlie Cilzat voy Hamrick. He was husband for 47 years to ; the late Marjorie Ellis Hamrick. He was also preceded in death by sisters Betty Murray, Kathleen Lancaster and Whittie Jane Hamrick, and brothers Herman, Howard, James and Lawrence Hamrick. He was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church, Grover, where he served as Deacon, choir member and Sunday School Superintendent for over 30 years. He was an officer with the Cleveland County Sheriff Reserve. He was retired from Burlington Industries after 35 years of service. He was employed with Value Incentives, Kings Mountain. He considered the employees of Value Incentives as his extended fami- ly. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He is survived by his son, Ronald Hamrick and wife Nancy of Grover; daughters Teenia Henderson and husband Bob of Grover, Vickie Black and hus- band Dennis of Grover, and Beverly Owensby and husband Butch of Spartanburg, SC; 13 grandchildren, Robbie and Christopher Henderson, Walter, Justin, Travis and Shannon Hamrick, Jennifer Katy, Eric and Greg Owensby, and Jody, Rodney and Ginger Black; five great-grandchildren, Austin Henderson, Heather Hamrick, Jeffery Wright, Austin Short and Kayleigh Hamrick; brother Jessie Hamrick; and sisters Faye Boney, Ella Mae Duncan, Winnie Hudson, Dorothy Murray, and Mary Etta Short. She was born in Cleveland County, daughter of the late Otis and Sallie Gantt Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eual Smith Sr., two A Ministry of Christian Freedom Baptl t Ch roh D. The Kings Mountain Herald sons, Junior Smith and Dean Smith, a daughter, Sis Wilson, and eight brothers, Tots, Ray, Troy, Elmer, OD, Ebb, Jay and Willard Martin. She retired from the textile industry and was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. She was loved by her grandchildren and they remember the fun they had with her while she was making bis- cuits. She is survived by sons, Ed Goforth and wife Kathy of Kings Mountain, and Johnny Smith and wife Shirley of Kings Mountain; daughters Patricia Welch and husband Junior of Kings Mountain, Penny Weaver of Grover, and Judy Haney and husband Russell of Kings Mountain; brother Gene Martin of Hickory; 28 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great grandchildren. A native of Cleveland County, she was a 1974 graduate of Crest High School. She w a s employed as an inspector with STI of Kings Mountain for 14 years. She was a member of Christian Freedom Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, working with the Made for Praise Sunday School Class, and a member of the church choir. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children and new grandson Hunter. She was very active: ims her church and loved her’ church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Heaber Augusta Haskins and Mary Ruby Neelands Haskins; brother-in- law Benton Lee Hamrick; and nephew Todd Haskins. MAE SUE GOFORTH MCGILL KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mae Sue Goforth McGill, 84, resident of Summit Place, died June 30, 2007 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late William Marvin and Ada Pearl Sellers Goforth. She was the wife of the late William Leroy McGill. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Garrison Goforth and Robert Lee Goforth, and one nephew, Larry Thomas Goforth. Mrs. McGill was a life time member of Boyce Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Minnie Alexander Circle and taught a children’s Sunday School class for many years. She retired from Margrace Mill. She served as a Pink Lady at Kings Mountain Hospital. During ‘her active life she unselfishly served by seeing to the needs of others. This servant- hood continued during her seven years residency at Summit Place. She is survived by her brother, Thomas G. He was the son of the late Victor Fir a> ni'k Webster. He was also pre- ceded in death by his sister, Linda Leigh. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. He loved hunting and was a former member of the Indian Trail Hunting Club. He loved garden- ing. He was a former employee of Winn-Dixie, Charlotte. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his son, Rufus Alan Webster of Kings Mountain; daughter Kathy W. Harris of Bessemer City; mother Audrey Bridges Webster of Kings = Mountain; brothers Claude Webster and wife Debbie of Kings Mountain and Larry Webster and wife Cathy of Grover; sisters Wanda Beaver and husband Tom of Locust and Aileen Horton of Spartanburg, SC; and two grandchildren, Michael Webster and Katelyn Harris.
