Gateway Properties of the
Carolinas, LLC, treated officers
and staff of the Kings Mountain
Police Department to a special
“thank you meal” on Monday,
December 3, and Wednesday,
December 5.
Officers working on the day
shifts were invited to lunch in
Gateway’s conference room at
11:30 am. and 12:30 p.m. on
Monday and Wednesday.
Gateway Properties also deliv-
ered meals to police headquar-
ters on Monday and Wednesday
night for those working the
evening shifts.
“These individuals have a
tremendous responsibility pro-
tecting lives and property in
Kings Mountain,” said Steve
Padgett, broker and owner of
Gateway Properties. “They face
dangers daily so we can live
peacefully and safe in an order-
- ly society. We wanted to express
our appreciation for the out-
standing work they do.”
As the first round of officers
finished their desert on Monday
afternoon, Padgett thanked
them personally for all of their
hard work and dedication to the
community. It's not a huge
Christmas meal, but it is our
humble way of saying “thank
you,” he said.
To further show his apprecia-
tion, he gave each of them a
Gateway pen and key chain.

CHARLOTTE MARKHAM SHUFORD
ELON - Charlotte Markham Shuford, 91, of 202 Arbor Drive went
home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the
Home Place of Burlington. She was a native of Durham County and
the wife of the late Tolly Martin Shuford.
She was also preceded in death by her son Billy Shuford; parents
Charles E. and Sadie Hackney Markham; and sisters Eleanor and
Sarah Markham.
Charlotte was a graduate of Duke University and she retired as a
high school teacher after teaching both English and French for over
30 years. She was a member of the Boyce Memorial Associate
Reformed Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain where she taught
Sunday School and was also a member of the Rosa Lipford Circle.
Charlotte was a member of the Home and Garden Club of Kings
Mountain and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a
loving and devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-
grandmother.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Buz Shuford and
wife Joyce of Elon; grandchildren Brian Patrick Shuford Sr. and wife
Karen of Burlington and Tracy Ann Shuford of Greensboro; great-
grandchildren Brian Patrick Shuford, Jr. and Alyson Jasiak; and
brother Charles B. Markham of Durham.
The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Larry Redding at 2 p.m.
Sunday, December 2, 2007 at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. A
“graveside service was held on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 11 a.m.
at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

MICHAEL ‘MIKE’ ALLEN
SHELBY - Michael Barry Allen, 68, Woodlawn Avenue, died
November 28, 2007 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was preceded in death by his for-
mer wife, Helen Mullinax Allen; parents Fay B. and Ethel Tate Allen;
brothers Benny Allen, Gerald “Pearly” Allen and Hugh Lee Allen,
and sister Patsy Allen Hudson.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was employed in the movie
industry, formerly working for Earl Owenby Studio and Paramount
Pictures.
Mike enjoyed flying airplanes, hot air ballooning, traveling but
most of all life.
He is survived by his son, Brian Allen of Charlotte; daughter
Sharon Allen Carter and husband Tim of Shelby; sisters Marcie
McCurry and husband William of Savannah, GA, and Hazel Tiddy
and husband Gene of Gastonia; grandchildren Tiffany Carter, Mindy
Carter and Steven Allen; and special friend Bobby Rector of Shelby.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2007
at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel.

GROVER - D. Frank Royster, 86, passed away November 29, 2007
at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility.
He was born on September 2, 1921 to the late John Bunyan Royster, 0
Sr. and Pearl B. Royster. He was also preceded in death by his wife of
50 years,
Doris Royster Moritz.
He was affectionately known by his family and friends as =
“Bossman.” Frank was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of =
Grover, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for
over 50 years. He owned and operated Royster Vending Company of: o
Grover until his retirement in 1993.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and served his country
during World War II. The family would like to extend a special =
thanks to the staff of Twelve Oaks Assisted Living and to Dr. C.
Wayne Lankford and his staff at Pilot Mountain Family Practice for. . .
the wonderful care and love that they extended to Frank for the past
14 months. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Surry
Margaret H. Royster, three brothers George Royster, Grier
Royster and Bill Royster; and two sisters Bertie Royster Justice and =
Er
County for their very kind assistance in the last days of Frank's life
here on earth.
Survivors include his two sons Steve Royster of Mt. Airy and Mike
Royster and wife Susan of Pilot Mountain; his sister Thelma Janelle wa
Carmack and husband James D. of Hermiston, OR; grandsons Josh
Royster and wife Heather of Raleigh, Matthew Royster of Cherokee,
IA, Ben Royster of Charlotte, Mark Royster and wife Susan of
Allentown, PA and Brian Royster and fiancee Leah Gehrman of
Durham; great-grandchildren Kaeleb, Kaiden and Kameron Royster
of Cherokee, IA; sister-in-law Eloise P. Royster of Grover; and special
friend Joan Gore of Kings Mountain.
The funeral was conducted by the Revs. John Barnhardt and John
FE Bridges at 11 am. Saturday, December 1, 2007 at First Baptist
Church of Grover. Burial, with military honors, was in Grover
Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Mt.
Airy, NC, on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church,
403 Cleveland Ave., Grover, NC 28073, or to the charity of the donor” s
choice.
