James Newman, 17, Belvedere Cir., disorderly con- duct, $1,000 secured bond. INCIDENTS A resident of W. Gold St. reported being assaulted at his home. A resident of Maple Grove, MN reported that someone broke into his vehicle while it was parked at a local hotel and stole a navigation system/CD player valued at $2,000, and did * $2,100 damage to the vehicle. Food Lion, Shelby Rd. reported larceny of $110 worth of steaks. A resident of Dixon Dairy Rd. reported loss or theft of $1,100 while at a local grocery store. A resident of Orr Terrance reported a break-in and larceny of a Playstation valued at $150, five games valued at $130, two cell phones valued at $50 each, and assorted jewelry. A resident of Butternut Dr. reported that someone pried open a power box and removed copper wire. Damage was $500. Silver Express, E. King St., Shergill’s Exxon, W. King St., and Moore's Market & Grill, Goforth Rd., reported larceny of gas. A resident of Harmon Rd. reported that someone smashed the back window of her vehicle, causing $225 damage. WRECK Vehicles driven by Verneda Barrett of N. Huntingdon, PA and Kelly Gibson Jr. of Kings Mountain struck on I-85 at US 74. According to Cpl. Mark Butler the tractor trailer driven by Barrett was in the left lane and came around the Gibson vehicle. The trailer struck Gibson's vehicle causing it to spin around twice and hit the guard rail twice. Gibson was transported to Gaston Memorial for treatment of injuries. Barrett was charged with a safe movement violation. January 31, 2008 EMILY WEAVER eweaver@kingsmountainherald.com The Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting entries for Kings Mountain’s 10th ~~ Annual Business Showcase. The Showcase, “By the Tracks,” kicks off February 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. at City Hall Businesses will continue to be displayed at City Hall until March 21. The kick-off ceremo- ny will feature refreshments, fun, door prizes, music on the keyboard by Tracy Bolin and photography by Torrence Photography of Kings Mountain. _ Participants are not required to staff their displays through- out the Showcase, but are encouraged to do so on opening night. “This is a great opportunity to advertise your business because everyone who visits City Hall will be able to view your display and see how it may be of service to them,” said Shirley Brutko, Director of the Kings Mountain Chamber office. “Last year we had around 50 participants and approximately 2,000 visitors during the four weeks.” Businesses will be able to set up their displays on February 22 and 25. The Showcase will not only advertise local indus- tries and commerce, but will also highlight the railroad that served as a building block for Kings Mountain and the county. “We're real excited about embracing the railroad tracks since they are right downtown Kings Mountain. That's why we're calling it ‘By the Tracks,” Brutko said. “All of the partici- pants are asked to tie their dis- play in with the railroad.” The Business Showcase is open to both members and non- members of the Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce. An outstanding Kings Mountain business professional will also be recognized during the opening ceremony. Space is available on a first come, first serve basis.
