February 28, 2008 PTS Toe BA The Kings Mountain Herald {OBITUARIES WILLIE MORRIS BYERS GASTONIA - Willie Morris Byers, 78, 2225 W. 6th, died February 23, 2008 at her home. - Born in Cleveland County, she was ~ the daughter of the late Willie Albert Morris and Violet Barrett Morris Yates and wife of the late G.E. “Ed” Byers. For over 20 years she was the owner and operator of the Lantana Restaurant, Charlotte, and former manager of Elks Club, Gastonia. She was also a member of the VFW. She is survived by her son, Doye Edward Byers of Kings Mountain; daughter Brenda K. Byers of Kings Mountain; broth- ers Rondall Yates of Gastonia, Edward Yates of Kings Mountain, and Norman Gene Yates and wife Betty of Dublin, GA; sister Linda Yates Martin of Kings Mountain; sister-in-law Carolyn Dellinger of Gastonia; grandchildren Kim Caldwell and husband Kevin, Diane Cash, Ethan Byers, Amy Husk and Shauna Colbert; and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. J.R. Robbins at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Ollie Harris® Memorial Chapel, Kings Mountain. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain. PATRICIA ‘PAT’ YVONNE WELCH KINGS = MOUNTAIN - Patricia “Pat” Yvonne Welch, 68, 106 Fairdel Street, passed away February 23, 2008. She was born in Cleveland County on September 1, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Eueal and Ivey Martin Smith. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dean Smith, and sister Sis Wilson. She was employed with Mauney Hosiery for 32 years. She is survived by her hus- band of 52 years, Richard Welch Jr. of the home; son and daugh- ter-in-law, Ricky and Janice Welch of Kings Mountain; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Rickie Adams and Elaine and Earnest Jones, all of Kings Mountain; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robin Goforth of Kings Mountain, and Johnny and Shirley Smith of Kings Mountain; sisters and brothers- in-law, Judy and Russel Haney and Penny Weaver, all of Kings Mountain; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by pastors Herman Green and Bob Hope -at . 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Cherokee Street Baptist Church. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. JAMES ‘GLENN’ CABLE GASTONIA - James “Glenn” Cable, 72, 521 Davis Park Road, : xd oahy ced February . 24, 2008 at his residence. He was ‘born May 2, 1935 in Gaston County, son of the late James Ira and Willie Bell Smith Cable. He was retired from Westvaco and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Survivors are sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and LeeAnn Cable of Dallas, Tony and Gina Cable, Jimmy and Diane Cable of Gastonia; daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Ron Taylor, Joyce and Dwayne Christianson of Superior, WI; step-children, Debbie Keller, David and Terry Fields; sisters and brothers-in- law, Betty C. and Gordon Lewis of Gastonia, Barbara C. and Travis Hawkins of Kings Mountain and Phyllis C. Gunning of Gastonia; nine grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. : In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Crowder Cable, and stepson Joe Harwell. SHORT KINGS MOUNTAIN - Billy G. Short, 72, 104 Jamestown Court, died February 21, 2008 at Kings Mountain Hospital after a courageous bout with cancer. He was born in Cleveland County and.was the first born son of the late J.B. and Mamie Barnes Short. He was also pre- ceded in death by his brother Loyd Short, and sister Judy Jenkins. Unwilling to give up on life, Billy loved to work and was an employee of Industrial Electroplating, Gastonia. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Gastonia, where he served as Deacon and usher. He loved fishing, gardening, bowl- ing and to spend time outside. He served in the United States Army in Germany. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Clinton Short of Kings Mountain; daughters Kecia S, Warren and husband Matthew of Lake Wylie, SC, and Jennifer S. Whitehouse of Kings Mountain; brother Thurman Short of Blacksburg, SC; sisters Edith Jenkins, Nell Cook, and Mary Breedlove, all of Blacksburg, SC, Janice Murphy of Greenville, SC, and Kay Falls and Brenda Bowman, both of Clover, SC; brother-in-law Martin Jenkins of Clover, SC; sister-in-law Sherry Short of Kings Mountain; and three grandchildren, James Edward “JJ” Lewis and wife Stephanie of Garden City, SC, Jonathan Lewis of Blufton, SC, and Alex Short of Kings Mountain. The funeral was conducted by Dr. Al Miller and the Revs. Phil Duncan and Sam Snyder at 2 p-m. Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Unity Baptist Church, Gastonia. She was born in Gaston County. She was the daughter of the late Ervin Thomas and Callie Bolick Cook. She was wife of the late Robert Holland. She was also preceded in death by sister, Mary Jane Hamrick. She was retired from Kings Mountain Knit. She was a good mother and she will be missed. She is survived by her son, Bruce Holland of Kings Mountain; daughters Kathy H. Broadway and husband Junior of Grover, and Linda H. Kearse and husband Gordon of Fairfax, SC; sisters Edna Tessneer and Myrtle Bell of Kings Mountain; grandchildren Chasity Holland of Kings Mountain, Bruce Holland Jr. and wife Daneen of Boiling Springs, Raina Padgett of Bessemer City and James Huskins Jr. of Fairfax, SC; and four great-grandchildren.
