a OP ar ey TE i hi 4 { AR I feed's March 6, 2008 June 1 deadline for student transfer requests Parents who want to request a " school transfer for their child for 2008-2009 should do so by June 1. Cleveland County Schools has established this deadline to allow school officials to better plan for next year by having more accurate student numbers this summer. «Parents may pick up transfer forms at the school in their resi- dence area or the school for which they are requesting a transfer. A signature acknowl- edging the request is required ~ from principals of the school of residence and the school requested; however, transfers are not final until approved by the Cleveland County Board of Education. : Schools at student capacity or that reach capacity will be closed to transfers. Specific grade levels within a school also may be closed to avoid classroom overcrowding. The list of schools closed to transfers is ' maintained at @ the Administrative Center. Crest rpiddle and high schools, Kings Mountain ‘middle and high schools, Kings Mountain Intermediate and Fallston and SCHOOL BRIEFS West elementary schools are currently on that list and closed to transfers. The June 1 deadline also applies to incoming kindergart- ners. While parents may apply for transfers now, the Board may not act on these requests until after the school year ends. Parents should take their ehil- dren to kindergarten orienta- tion on April 7 at the school in the district where they reside. Although out-of-county stu- dent transfers are accepted, pri- ority is given to Cleveland County residents. Students who transfer from outside Cleveland County are required to pay an annual tuition established by the Board of Education. The current rate is $1,414. Students who are granted transfers will be allowed to remain at a school through the grade span served by that school unless otherwise noted in the transfer approval letter. For example, a student granted. a transfer to a K-3 school may remain there through third grade. Parents will be required to submit a new application after third grade if they want their child to attend a school Melinda Cleveland on Limestone honor roll Melinda Cleveland of Kings Mountain was named to the Honor Roll for the 2007 fall semester at Limestone College, Gaffney, SC. Cleveland earned a grade point average of 3.75 on the col- lege’s 4.0 scale. A Math and Science Family night March 18 at KMIS Math and Science Family Night will be held at Kings Mountain Intermediate School on Tuesday, March 18th. Dinner will be in the school’s cafeteria trom 5:30 p.m.-6. Learning sessions will be held at 6, 6:30 and 7 p.m. The event is open to parents and students. Brooks Tate on dean’s list at UNC Charlotte Brooks R. Tate, senior at UNC Charlotte, recently received a letter from Robert E. Johnson, professor and dean of engineering at UNC's Lee College of Engineering, congratulat- ing him on making the Dean’s List for the Fall semester. Tate will graduate in May with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. Tate is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Tate and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tate and Mrs. Joann Porter Spencer of Kings Mountain. The Board reserves the right to revoke a transfer at any time for violation of attendance or discipline policies. If student transfers are approved, parents must provide their own trans- portation.
