The Kings Mountain Herald Ww" PEARL CANIPE SHELBY - Mrs. Pearl Eleanor Canipe, 86, 505 Charles Road, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter to the late Edd sis and Paola Rippy Blanton. She had retired from Hudson Hosiery Mill and was formerly a mem- ber of Eastside Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother, always putting her family needs before her own. She had a large collection of dolls, she loved flowers, and was always ready to travel some- where. She was preceded in death by her husband, : Grady Canipe; six brothers, James Wilson Blanton, George Baxtor Blanton, Fred Alvin Blanton, Clyde Edward Blanton, Ed “Doonie” Blanton, and Charles William Blanton; one sister, Peggy Jeanne Gardner, and two other infant siblings. She is survived by one son, Michael Robert Canipe and his wife Susan of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren, Michael Wayne Canipe and his wife Beth of Boiling Springs, Jeffrey Scott Canipe and his wife Kelly of Kings Mountain, Shayne Lingg, currently serving in Afghanistan, and Jennifer Lingg of Charlotte; one broth- er, Bobby Gene Blanton and his wife Jeanell of Shelby, and one sis- ter, Barbara Ann Dellinger of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren, Ben and Patrick Canipe and Kaitlyn and Abby Canipe; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Hickory, son of the late Arthur Ray and Vertie Houston Smith. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Antonina Smith, who died November 26, 2007. He was a member of First Baptist Church and retired after 22 years with the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. * He is survived by his son, Dennis. E. Smith and wife Sara of Cloquet, MN, Robert Keith Smith and wife Danielle Chanat of Charlotte, and Mark E. Smith of Charlotte; brothers John R. “Bob” Smith and wife Jo of Kings Mountain and Houston Smith of Kings Mountain; sister Peggy Gladden and husband John of Kings Mountain; and grandchildren Erica Smith, Megan Smith, Ian Smith and Samantha Smith. The funeral was conducted by Dr. John Sloan at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008 at First Baptist Church. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Barylski, 71, 1427 Long Branch Rd., Kings Mountain, died April 16, 2008 at his home. He was born in Webster, Mass., son of the late Anthony Barylski. He was an employee of SIS in Earl and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. : 3 He is survived by his wife, Sharon Barylski of Grover; son Almon “Charlie” Barylski and wife Tammy of Herman, Maine; daughters Ethel B. Orszulak and husband Shawn of Plainfield, CT and Roanne Barylski of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; six childrén by a previous marriage; mother Florence Bosclar Barylski of Connecticut; brother William “Bill” Barylski of North Grosvenordale, CT; two special grandchildren Damian Barylski and Ashley Barylski; 12 grandchil- dren and two great grandchildren. Acuff, 66, 175 Blackburn Drive, died April 18, 2008 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby. She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late Raymond Oscar and Ella Clark Camp. She was also predeceased by son Carl “Goat” Goforth, two grandchildren, and sister Geraldine Stewart. She was retired form the textile industry and was a member of Midview Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, where she was an active member of the WMU. She is survived by her husband, Billy C. Acuff Sr. of Grover; sons Steve Goforth of Blacksburg, SC, Bobby Goforth and wife Nicole of Shelby, and Billy Acuff and wife Maryann of Bessemer City; daughters Cindy Birkert of Texas, Tina Roberts and husband Shane of Gastonia, Susan- Hudson and husband John of Earl, and Carol Goforth of Shelby; brother R.O. “Hoppy” Camp of Kings Mountain; sisters Doris Short of Kings Mountain, Ginger Davis of Grover, Shirley Sisk of Burgaw and Toby Owens of Liberty, SC; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Bob Hope and Eddie Clayton at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008 at Ollie Harris Memorial’ Chapel, Kings Mountain. Interment was in Grover Cemetery. He was born in McDowell County. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Sprigg. He attended Dallas Four Square Gospel Church and was a construction worker. He is survived by his daughters, Amber Chandler of Newport News, VA and Heather Grubb and husband Jeramy of Hampton, VA; parents, Melvin E. and Ellen Davis Morrison of Kings Mountain; brother Phillip Morrison of Belmont; and sisters Pamela Ward and husband Thomas of Elizabethton, TN, and Julie Morrison of Kings Mountain. ; The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Roger Woodard and Richard Horny at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Family Survivor Dinner slated May 8 Kings Mountain’s Relay for Life Survivor’s Dinner will be held at the Patrick Senior Center May 8 from 6-8 p.m. The dinner is held every year to honor those who have won the battle or who are continu- ing to win their battle against cancer. Thunderbolts beat New Manna The Hope Christian baseball team improved to 7-1 Tuesday with a 21-11 win over New Manna Christian Academy of Marion. After allowing New Manna three runs in the top of the first inning, the Thunderbolts scored seven runs in their half of the inning and never trailed again. . Eighth grader Joseph Rivera picked up the win. He struck out five. Winston Wood pitched the final 1 2/3 innings. Tyler Shores led the Bolts on offense, reaching base all five times he batted. He drove in six runs with a bases-loaded triple and a bases-loaded double. Micah Rivera had three hits, three RBIs and scored three times. Jarred Whitlock and Ethan .Segars also had three RBIs each.
