After studying North Carolina pioneers and the Moravians of Salem, students came dressed in pioneer clothing and brought pioneer food to share. The stu- dents were all placed into three groups that traveled to each fourth grade class to do special pioneer activities. Some of these activities, included candle making, sewing a miniature pillow, weaving, plate throwing, ‘and games of pick up straws and 20 questions. Since there was no electricity in the 1700's, kids explored the world of the pioneers without artificial lights. ~~ Students were able to experience a little of what it was like to be a child and student during this time peri- od. To end their social studies unit, the fourth graders will be visiting Old Salem on Friday, April 18th. Grace Yarborough pioneers her way through Pioneer Day at North Elementary.
