The Kings Mountain Herald ‘May 15, 2008 OBITUARIES NEWELL THORNBURG KINGS MOUNTAIN - Newell Thornburg, “The Watermelon Mont 76, of Oak Grove, died 7 May 10, 2008 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late : Wray and Gladys McSwain Thornburg. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rodney Dale Thornburg. He worked in landscaping, construction and grading. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Champion Thornburg; sons Lanny Thornburg and wife Tammy and Scott Thornburg and wife Krista, all of Kings Mountain; brothers Dwan Thornburg and wife Sue of Kings Mountain and Modean Thornburg and wife Mary of Lake Panasofkee, FL; sister Helen Patterson of Kings Mountain; grandchildren Brian Thornburg, Ross Ellis, Chase Thornburg and Brittney Thornburg; and uncle, Fred Thornburg of Kings Mountain. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. James Holder and David Blanton at 2 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. EUNICE HORD ALLEN FAYETTEVILLE, GA - Eunice Hord Allen, 88, passed away May 12, 2008. She was a member of Stripling Terrace - Methodist Church in Columbus, GA and was Vice President of Biltmore Press in Asheville. Sh e was predeceased by her hus- band Labon Paschal-Allen. She is survived by her granddaugh- ter, Pamela Parmer and hus- band Kenneth of Fayetteville, GA; grandson Gene Allen and wife Susan of Atlanta, GA; four great-grandchildren; sister Sarah Ivey of Kings Mountain; and several nieces and nephews. ‘The family will receive friends Friday May 16 at 1 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, GA (770-631-9171) is in charge of arrangements. SHIRLEY BANKS SHYTLES KINGS MOUNTAIN - Shirley Banks Shytles, 70, passed away Friday, May 9, 2008 at her home. She was born in Spartanburg County, SC. She was the daughter of the late Ike Banks and Bessie Weathers Banks. She was also preceded in death by sister, Dovie Camp. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. She was an excellent student and athlete at Boiling Springs, SC. She was a cosme- tologist and a teacher of cosme- tology. ‘She was the State Hair Stylist Champion of South Carolina at the age of 19. She is survived by her hus- band of 52 years, Doug Shytles of Kings Mountain; sons Mark Shytles and Brent Shytles; daughter Rhonda Cloninger and husband Rusty; grandchil- dren Russell, Karen, Leslie, Scottlyn, Kristen and Joel; sister Frances Cagle and husband Bob; nieces and nephews. The funeral was conducted by Dr. John Sloan at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2008 at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 605 W. GLENDA CRAWFORD BLACKSBURG, SC - Glenda Hall Crawford, 61, 130 Bear Den Road, died May 10, 2008 at her home. Born in Cherokee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Brumb Hall. She was also pre- ceded in death by brothers Steve Hall and Charles Hall, and sister Mary Ann Hall. She was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was a member of Golden Harvest Temple, Lowell, and attended Restoration at Chapel Grove Church of God, Gastonia. She is survived by her hus- band, Jimmy David Crawford of Blacksburg, SC; son Jimmy David Hall and wife Helen of Kings Mountain; daughters Pamela Crawford Moss and husband Randy of Kings Mountain, Charlene Crawford Hollifield of Gastonia, and Cindy Crawford Christenbury and husband Shane of Blacksburg, SC; mother Katherine Green Hall of Gastonia; brothers Philip Hall of Gastonia, Paul Hall of Spartanburg, SC and Joseph Hall of Georgia; sisters Judy Hall Bailey of Cherryville, Carol Hall of Tennessee and Kathy Cape of Lincolnton; grandchil- dren Ashley, Amber, Jaron, Andrew, Alysun, J.D. Shanley, Manteo, Anna Marie and John Michael; and great-grandchil- dren Logan and Landon. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Bart Stone, Marvin Woods and Andrew Moss at 2 p-m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, Kings ‘Mountain. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Gaffney, SC. INCIDENTS A resident of Linwood Rd. reported that someone cut the seat and tire on a Scooter, caus- ing $200 damage. A resident of Linwood Rd. reported that someone cut a tire on his truck, causing $120 dam- age. : NEW MUSEUM EXHIBIT Kings Mountain Historical Museum, 100 E. Mountain St.., has opened a new exhibit, “A Stitch in Time: Quilts and Needlework Pre 1960.” The exhibit features decorative as well as utilitarian quilts dating from the 1840s. An employee of the City of KM reported that a back hoe rolled down a hill and into a truck owned by Barry Wright of N. Gaston St. Damage to the truck was $4,500. Caromont Family Medicine, N. Cleveland Ave., reported prescription fraud. Gibson Industrial Services, York Rd., reported larceny of 125 gallons of diesel fuel valued at $523.75.
