SOCIAL BRIEFS Grants are available for local nonprofits The Cleveland County Community Foundation is currently accepting applica- tions from nonprofit organi- zations for its 2008 Grants Program. Funds may be used to launch new programs or develop innovative approaches for addressing community needs. The grants may also be used to increase the capacity of a nonprofit agency to carry out its specific mission. Grants generally are award- ed up to $2,500. Applicants must be non- profit, tax-exempt organiza- tions serving Cleveland County citizens. Grants do not cover capital campaigns, book publication, confer- ences, endowment funds or individual needs. Grant applications can be down- loaded from fftc.org (click on Regional Affiliates and then Cleveland). Applications must be postmarked by July 16, 2008. Lawrence Patrick Senior Life and Conference Center, 909 E. King St., Kings Mountain. To get credit for the entire course, one must attend all classes. Baseball exhibit slated at County Arts Center Entries for “Baseball as Art: America’s Favorite Pastime,” will be held through June 16 at Cleveland County Arts Center. The exhibit coincides with the 2008 American Legion World Series which will be held in Shelby August 13-26. Artwork must pertain to or depict baseball. Amateurs and professional artists are invited to submit up to three separate artwork. All media will be accepted. Artwork must have been completed within the past two years and must pertain to or depict baseball. The American Legion Baseball Commission will spon- sor a $500 purchase award. Quilts and needlework exhibit at KM Museum The Kings Mountain Historical Museum's newest exhibit, “A Stitch in Time: Quilts and Needlework fe 1960, ” will run oo An The exhibit features decora- tive as well as utilitarian quilts dating from the 1840s. Needlework examples include embroidery, crewel, crochet and needlepoint. The Museum is located at 100 East Mountain Street. Hours are Tuesday — Saturday 10:00 — 4:00.
