The Kings Mountain Herald July 3, 2008 OBITUARIES PEGGY ADERHOLDT KINGS MOUNTAIN = - Margaret “Peggy” Knox Aderholdt, 80, of 203 S. Gaston Street, died June 23, 2008 at White Oak Manor. A native of Clover, SC, she was born to the late John Jackson and Viola McCarter Knox. She retired as sales clerk at Fulton Department Store of Kings Mountain. She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Charles Hubert Aderholdt; four brothers, Joseph Leander Knox, John Jackson Knox, Jr., George Waldo Knox, and Jacob Rudisel Knox; and two sisters, Marion K. Breakfield and Nell Knox Love. A graveside service was con- ducted by the Rev. Bill Jeffcoat at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2008 at Mountain ‘Rest Cemetery. Burial was at Mountain Rest Cemetery. KINGS MOUNTAIN - Former State Senator William Kemp Mauney, Jr., 90, of 200 E. Gold Street, died Saturday, June 18, 2008 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Cleveland County. Be En August 15, 1917, he was the son of the late William Kemp and Sa rah Hoffman Mauney. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest Mauney, David Mauney and George Mauney; two daugh- ters, Mary Leigh Broadwell and Martha Jane Mauney. He gradu- ated from Kings Mountain City School and attended Lenoir- Rhyne College in Hickory. He later served on the Board of Trustees for Lenoir-Rhyne College. Upon graduation from Lenoir-Rhyne he was a pioneer in the N.C. hosiery business. Mr. Mauney started Mauney Hosiery Mills in the basement of his father’s Cotton Mill. Through the years the company grew to employ over 300 people and was a major supplier of socks to the United States gov- ernment. Many servicemen shared with him the joy of see- ing socks arrive stamped Mauney Hosiery, Kings Mountain, NC, USA. He was the 1991 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from - the Catawba Valley Hosiery Association. He was instrumental in start- ing many other businesses, Carolina Throwing, Inc., Lyntex Hosiery, Can-do Hosiery, Gaye Hosiery, Cleveland Hosiery, L&L Hosiery, RDS Hosiery, B- and-B Dairy Farm, and Kings Mountain Motor Inn. He was longtime board member of the Cleveland County Fair. In the 1960s Mr. Mauney entered politics and served until the 70's in the North Carolina House of Representatives and the North Carolina Senate. He served on many committees under Governors Robert W. Scott and James B. Hunt, Jr. and intro- duced numerous bills into legis- lation. In 1974 he was recog- nized for unselfish support to Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters of Cleveland County. Mr. Mauney for 66 years has been part of a group of several businessmen who provide a Christmas meal for any civil servant in the Kings Mountain area. He was a life- long member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, serving in many church capacities. He also served on the Board of Blowing Rock Methodist Church during his 30 years of summer resi- dence in Blowing Rock. He was a charter member of the Kings Mountain Lions Club, serving 70 continuous years, and was a former Jaycee. He founded the William Kemp and Mary S. Mauney Foundation to provide many students scholar- ships and financial assistance and funding for local food banks and crisis ministries. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Elizabeth Simpson Mauney of Kings Mountain; son, William Kemp Mauney III and wife Debbie of Kings Mountain; daughter, Sarah Mauney Faunce and hus- band David of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, William Kemp Mauney IV of Banner Elk, Mary Amelia Mauney of Charlotte, Britt Faunce and wife Bridgett of Alpharetta, Ga., Justin Faunce and wife Rachel of Cornelius, Natalie Turner Manning and husband Michael of St. Louis, Mo.; Rowland Goodrich Turner, I and wife Nikki of Ellabell, Ga., Ryan Broadwell and wife Elaina of Austin, Tex., Jennifer Jo Broadwell of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; great grandchildren, Blake Faunce of Alpharetta Ga., Savannah Faunce and Byers Faunce of Cornelius, NC, Mary Leigh Elizabeth Manning and Charlotte Avery Manning of St. Louis, Mo., Zachary Alexander Turner of Ellabell, Ga. Ainsleigh Broadwell of Austin, Tex.; son-in-law, Jerry Broadwell and wife Harriett of Kings Mountain; sister-in-law, Mrs. James B. (Sara) Simpson of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; broth- er, Miles Mauney and wife Dorothy of Hilton: Head, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. William Jeffcoat, pas- tor of St. Matthew's Lutheran, and Paul Huddle, former col- lege roommate of Mr. Mauney and former missionary to Japan, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at St. Matthew's Lutheran. Sims Street, went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2008 at Kings Mountain Hospital. She was born in Saluda, NC. She was the daughter of the late Julia Pace. She was also preceded in death by her first husband T.C. Gordon and second husband Ewell Tate. She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother and grandmother and she enjoyed sewing and making quilts and embroidery. JIM JAIME MERCER ISLAND, WASH. - Jim Jaime, 46, of Mercer Tisslia-hed Wash., died at his home. He was a gifted artist and the operator of the Mercer Island Auto Spa. Mr. Jaime graduated from Wapato High School in 1973 and went on to play baseball at Eastern Washington University. He later graduat- ed from Central Washington University with a degree in art was art/therapy. His shown in galleries in Washington, Oregon, North Carolina and Santa Fe, NM. His paintings were about his personal struggles and tri- umphs. He was a friend to many young people as a baseball coach, an avid fan of Mercer Island High School sports and as a super- visor of kids who worked at the Auto Spa. He never held back in sharing his own life experiences, wanting others to learn from his. He was an outspoken advocate of AA for almost two decades. He was an active member of the former Serenity Club and was employed at PPG in Shelby for four years. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Jaime; step-daugh- ter, Morgan; sons, Jamie and Jeremiah Jaime; mother, Mona Bumgardner of Kings Mountain; step-father, Ross Bumgardner of Kings Mountain; -step-brother, Rusty Bumgardner of Honolulu, HI; and, step-sis- ters, Tracy Bumgardner and Lorna Durbin both of Kings Mountain. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at St.. Peter's Church in Wapato, Wash.
