Jeffery A. Basile has graduat- ed from basic combat train- ing at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice sys- tem, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. He is the son of Deborah Conway of Scism Farm Road, Kings Mountain. Basile is a 2008 graduate of Kings Mountain High School. Bennett presents two original plays in Hendersonville Two plays written by Kings Mountain Playwright Bolt celebrates 80 years, MILY WEAVER i eweaver@kingsmountainherald.com Lois Bolt, of Kings Mountain, turned 80 years young on Friday. Her dearly departed neighbor, whom she refers to as “Catfish,” had given her a long-stem rose as a gift on one of her previous irthdays. To celebrate her 80 years, like a special gift from beyond, the rose blossomed in full bloom on her birthday. It has grown nearly eight feet tall. ; She also found another special birthday treat on her front porch. His short plays have been roduced in Charlotte and ock Hill, S.C., as well as in Hendersonville. Bennett is an active member of Lost Playwrights of Western North Carolina, which pro- duces the short plays each month. CBC blood drive slated August 6 at KMH Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will be con- ducting a blood drive at Rings Mountain Hospital on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 from 9:30-12:30 p.m. The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas, is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit group, formed through the com- bined efforts of the four hos- pital systems serving the Charlotte metro region. It provides more than 90% of the blood to 14 area hospitals including: Gaston Memorial Hospital, Piedmont Medical Center and all of the Carolinas HealthCare and Presbyterian Hospitals in Mecklenburg County. All the blood CBCC collects in the community is returned to the community at the lowest possible cost consistent with the highest required quality, according to CBCC. Duke endows $36,930 to Children’s Homes of Cleveland County The Duke Endowment, based. out of Charlotte, recently awarded Children's Homes of Cleveland Coun a total of $36,930 in grant money. An $11,930 ‘grant was awarded to be used for the Homes’ first-time reaccredi- tation through the Council on Accreditation. Duke Endowment also awarded Children’s Homes of Cleveland County a $25,000 grant “for unrestrict- ed operating support for maintaining national accred- itation.” The Duke Endowment organization was established in 1924 by N.C. industrialist and philanthropist James B.
