The group will meet begin- ning, Friday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m. and will continue to meet on Fridays for the month of Sept. This group will be lead by Partnership for Children staff members. Preschoolers age 3-5 are invit- ed to attend. The playgroup will meet in the community room of the library. Storytime led by library staff will resume at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, for ages 3-5 and at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, for ages birth-2. LEC to offer dementia program Sept. 16 The Life Enrichment Center, 103 T.R. Harris Dr., Shelby, is hosting a program for people with loved ones suffering from dementia from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16. The program will address the questions of who will wander, how to prevent wandering, and what to do if someone is lost. A free sitter service will be offered for persons with dementia. To make reservations for the sitter service, call 704-484-0405. ‘Two Journeys’ exhibit offered at KM Art Center through Sept. 21 The Kings Mountain Art Center, (the old depot) 301 N. Piedmont Ave. (NC 216), is hosting a new exhibit “Two Journeys,” featuring the art of Lynn Eskridge and Lynn Roe, which will run through September 21. The exhibit fea- tures ceramic sculpture, bas- ketry and other works. The center is also offering ongoing art classes and exhibits by local and regional artists. The Fireside Gallery features art of the late A.B. Mauney Snow. Visit www.south- ernartssociety.org for more information. By Lois Blanton Twenty-five ladies attended the August 24th meeting of the Kings Mountain Woman's Club. Karen Bunch presided and Linda Dixon led the pledge to the flags and gave a devotional. Julie Pearson, financial coordina- tor for Cleveland County’s Relay for Life, presented the club a plaque for raising $1,923.13 in this year’s Relay. Pearson said the South American Division raised $57 million and over $20 million will be used in North Carolina. Lois Blanton was presented a Grand Club Relay Certificate for raising over $1,000 as an individ- ual. Blanton then thanked every- one for the success of this year’s Relay. Dixon urged everyone to volun- teer when the Vietnam Wall visits Kings Mountain next month. There will be 13 shifts with 14 per- sons needed for each shift. This will be October 2-6 at the Walking Track. Lori Sutherland announced the theme for this year’s Fall Festival - “Home for the Holidays.” She had sign-up sheets for workers to assist with the festival, which will be Wednesday, October 15. An impor- tant part of the festival will be floral arrangements with area garden clubs submitting, as well as indi- viduals. The public will be invited to vote on the arrangements. Linda Newsome is coordinator. Debbie Brown presented the evening program on selecting quality child care providers. Brown is opening a five-star center, Cleveland Child Development Center, in Shelby by Sept. 1. She emphasized the passion she has for quality child care and explained what parents should look for. The Education Department had arranged for the program and served chilled fruit, cookies, nuts and punch during the social hour. Kandice Hullender read the minutes of the May meeting. Doris McGinnis gave the financial report. Hullender reminded everyone to bring aluminum cans and profits from this goes to help maintain the flower garden downtown. Profits from the yard sale on August 23rd were $557 and this goes toward the $1,000 scholarship presented to a high school senior each year. The Public Affairs area will be in charge of the luncheon for police, firefighters, rescue workers and city council on Monday, September 29, 2008. Anne Bennett will chair the event.
