PINEVILLE - David Herman Shirah, 58, of 12531 Buxton Drive, died December 22, 2008 at Car- olinas Medical Center in Pineville. A native of Gas- tion County, he was the son of the liate William Grady and Bonnie Ollis Shirah. A retired barber, he was a member of Steele Creek Church of Charlotte and of Men of Steele Ministries. David gave his life to God four years ago at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte. He was a man after God’s own heart and had a big heart for the poor and a de- sire to mentor children. He was a generous person, full of life and his humor and wit will always be remem- bered. He loved his wife with all his heart and de- lighted in making her happy. He will be sorely missed by his wife, family, church family, neighbors and numerous friends. Surviving are his wife, Robin McKee Shirah of Pineville; five children that he loved as his own: Nick Wilson, Yerix Lanza, Carlo Molina, John Nguyen and Joe Nguyen; five brothers, Tommy Shirah and wife Frances of Camden, SC. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Dixon and Bessie Ware Goforth and was the husband of the late Norma Martin Goforth. He was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas Howard Goforth Jr.; daughter, Kathy Hodge; grandson Carl Thomas Goforth; two great grandchildren Carlette Go- forth and April Dawn; one brother and three sisters. He was a lifelong mem- ber of Oak Grove Baptist Church of Kings Mountain and was retired from Trian- gle Real Estate in Gastonia. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. She was married for 34 years to the late George Rhea Barber and was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Thompson Jr. and Robert Thompson and two sisters, Ruth Roark and Sarah Montoya. A member of First Pres- byterian Church for 70 years, she served as the first female Elder, a Bible Scholar and organist. D. Short and Bob Short. A member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church, she worked with her husband for over 40 years in the fam- ily business, Putnam, Hosiery Company. She was a dedicated homemaker, a member of Westover Baptist Church, loved flowers and will be greatly missed. They are extending the deadline for a special fundraiser for the Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry to January 10, 2009. Autopsy reveals cause of death An autopsy report released Monday morning lists the cause of death of Lucy Dye Johnson, 31, a Kings Moun- tain Hospital nurse, as two i ae A a A a ton te > Ee gunshot wounds to the head and not from a house fire = that brought rescue workers to her home between Gasto- = nia and Cramerton in July. The investigation is ongo- = ing by Gaston County Po- lice who have not yet made an arrest in the homicide. Johnson was shot once to. the posterior left side of the head and another time just posterior to the right ear, ac- cording to the report by the Mecklenburg County Med- ical Examiner’s Office. The autopsy report confirmed that Johnson was 15 weeks pregnant when she was killed. She had two other children, one 7 years and one 6 months, who were staying with relatives at the time of the killing.
