The Kings Mountain Herald Records . Wednesday, January 14, 2009 Obituaries Arnold Short KINGS, MOUNTAIN - Amold Clyde Short, 86, of 304 Fairview St., died Janu- ary 10, 2009 at home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late James Mack and Rosa Benfield Short and husband of the late Louise Ford Short. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also pre- ceded in death by his grand- daughter, Subrina Nellie Louise Jones, his brothers, Mack, Fred and Edward Short and his sister, Onas Holland. ' He was retired from the textile industry and also from Lithium Corporation in Bessemer City. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in the yard and time at the beach. He en- joyed spending time with his family. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. - Surviving are his daugh- ter, Sherry Jones and hus- band, David, of Kings Mountain; sisters, Naomi Benfield of York, SC and Edna Proctor of Kings Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews. . The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Second Baptist Church. Rev. James Lochridge officiated and in- terment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Parris AfFuneral Home Thelma Hoyle BESSEMER CITY - Thelma “Inez” Smith Hoyle, 92, died January 6, 2009, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia after an extended illness. She was born in Danville, Va., to the late Myrtle Campbell Stalcup Smith Blanchett and William A. Smith. She lived her life in Bessemer City. The funeral was con- ducted by the Revs. Tonyf§ Green ain id Marsha § Joyner | at2pm. | Friday, January 9, 2009 at Bethea United Methodist Church, Bessemer City. The family received visitors from 12-1:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment was at Besse- mer City Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Doug Kiser, Brett Kiser, Tony Bradshaw, Tommy Bradshaw, Kevin Kiser, and Robbie Robinson. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Kiser, Bennett Kiser, and Mitchell Brown. Mrs. Hoyle was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She was a loyal friend to anyone she met. She rarely met a stranger, and her infectious personality was never forgot ten by those she met. Her greatest joy was her pet ter- rier, “Peppi.” Mrs. Hoyle was an active church mem- ber at Bethea United Methodist Church. She is re- membered for her willing- ness to help anyone with a sick child, a newborn child, a sick family member, or anyone in need. Mrs. Hoyle was an avid reader and stayed up-to-date on current affairs. She is survived by daugh- ters, Peggy H. Kiser and Paula H. Brown; son, Purvis A. Hoyle; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, William F. Hoyle; daughter, Phyllis Ann Hoyle; son, Patrick O. Hoyle; brother, Oscar J. Stalcup; sis- ter, Irene Steele; and grand- sons, Rick Hoyle and Toby Bradshaw. Kings Mountain nurse’s boyfriend charged in murder The boyfriend of slain Kings Mountain nurse Lucy Johnson, 31, has been charged with her murder. Gaston County Police ar- rested Michael Lane Mead, 39, of 825 Saville Rd., Fort Mill, SC, on Friday and charged him with first degree murder, first degree arson and first degree burglary in the July 16, 2008 slaying and burning of her home. Mead remains in Gaston County Jail without bond. Prior to her death, Johnson was a nurse at Kings Moun- a ARBRE tain Hospital. She was the mother of two children and expecting a third child. Police allege that Mead short Johnson twice in the back of her head and set fire to her home in the Country Meadows Subdivision off Lowell-Bethesda Road ini Gaston County.
