Herndon was taken to
Kings Mountain Hospital
and then transferred to
Cleveland Regional Med-
ical Center for treatment of
injuries.

operating a 2006 Chevy,
was traveling East on the
US 74 Bypass when a deer
jumped out in front of his
car. Damages were esti-

Margaret Smith Ruff, 82,
died April 23, 2009 at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
The funeral service was
conducted Tuesday, April 28,
2009 at 3 p.m. at Ollie Har-
ris Memorial Chapel. Rev.
Paul Grigg and Rev. Kelly
Kowalczyk officiated and in-
terment was in Mountain
Rest Cemetery.
Active in the Kings
Mountain Senior Center, she
started the “Swinging Moun-
taineer” band, wrote songs
and poems and in the 1950’s
sang with her t win sister on
the Arhur Smith Show.
She was a foster grand-
parent and loved by a de-
voted large family.

County, NC. She was a reg-
istered nurse for Winston-
Salem Baptist Hospital for
many years and later did pri-
vate duty nursing. Vergie was
a pastor, s wife of eight Wes-
leyan Churches in the North
Carolina West District and
was a member of Firestone
Wesleyan Church, Gastonia.
The family wishes to thank
the staff of Robin Johnson
Hospice House and Gaston
Memorial Hospital, 3 South,
for their professional care.
She is survived by sons,
H. Harlan Milstead and wife
Helen of Harrisburg, Larry S.
Milstead and wife Addie of
Kings Mountain, Rev. Don-
ald W. Milstead and wife
Carol of Liberty, SC; daugh-
ters, Ilean M. Beck and hus-

great-grandchildren:
She was preceded in
death by her husband, Rev.
Lawrence W. Milstead;

and sisters, Edna Leonard,
