KINGS MOUNTAIN -
Mrs. Laura Mauney Houser,
95, a resident of Covenant
Village in Gastonia, died April
28, 2009 at Gaston Memorial
Hospital.
Born April 4, 1914 in
Cleveland County, she was

and Mrs.
Jacob S.
Mauney,
founding
father of
Kings Mountain, and daugh-
ter of Dorris Carl Mauney and
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth “Sadie”
Fisher Mauney. She was also
preceded in death by her hus-
band, George Henry Houser,
brothers, Carl F. Mauney and °
Joseph S. Mauney and grand-
son, George Andrew Hudson,
all of Kings Mountain.
Dedicated to community
service, assisting institutions
and individuals, Laura was a
civic-minded, benevolent,
committed visionary and mo-
tivator, a beloved wife,
mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother and friend.
Lifelong member of St.
Matthew’s Lutheran Church,
she served as call committee
member, Lutheran Church
Women Vice-President and
President and Altar Guild
Chairman. For the City of
Kings Mountain she was a
two-term Woman's Club
president, planning board
member for 25-plus years,
Centennial Celebration Com-
mittee member, headquarters
committee chairman, major
contributor to “Tracks In
Time,” a history of Kings
Mountain, Council of Garden
Clubs treasurer, Garden Club
president, annual floral fair
chairman and previous
Woman's Club trustee, Thurs-
day Afternoon Book Cub
president, Library Board
treasurer for 34- plus years, a
member of the Daughters of
the American Revolution,
Sadie Mills Inc. Director,
board of trustees of Kings
Mountain Hospital for 10-plus
years and was named Sesqui-
centennial Outstanding
Woman of Cleveland County.
Giving the best service for
the citizens of Kings Moun-
tain and Cleveland County,
Jacob S. Mauney Memorial
Library remains a shining trib-
ute to the spirit of Laura
Mauney Houser. The line of
her life was a distinctive one.
Her energies knew no limits in
achieving the professional,
cultural, or educational goals
of the agency to which she
was committed.
Surviving are her daugh-
ters, Shirley Houser Allen
Bimrose of Kings Mountain
and Beth Houser McIntyre
and husband, Lee, of Gasto-
nia; grandchildren Laura Ann
Johnson and husband, Sam, of
Jamestown; Betsy McIntyre
Hurst and husband, Brad, of
Gastonia; and Trey McIntyre
and wife, Kori, of Fort Mill,
SC; and great-grandchildren
Hannah Hayes Brisfield of
Jamestown, Sarah Katherine
Hayes of Charlotte, Lauralee
Hurst and Mary Kate Hurst of
Gastonia.
The family wishes to ex-
tend a heartfelt thank you to
all those who helped in the
special care of our Mama
Laura, especially Boots
LaRocca.
The memorial service was
conducted Saturday, May 2,

high school and struck a
1988 BMW operated by

Dr. Damages were esti-
mated at $1500 to the Davis
vehicle, according to school
resource officer R. S. Davis.
APRIL 27: Cpl. Mark But-
ler said that a three-car
wreck occurred on NC 161
at Gold Street when a 1999
Nissan operated by Ben-
jamin Hardee of Bessemer
City failed to stop at a red
light. The other vehicles
were operated by *Bobby
Camp, 506 Bridges St., and
Dorothy Brooks, 118
Owens St. Damages were
estimated at $4500.

Butler said that Christie

attempted to change lanes in

17-year-old driver. The acci-
dent happened on US 74

ground and struck an unoc-
cupied 2004 Honda doing a

Jeep from a parking space
on US 74 Business and
struck a 2002 Nissan oper-
