Arndt (nee Welch), 86, beloved wife of the late Alfred, loving mother of Mark (Sue) and mother of Daniel (Cara), Lane, Nicholas, Jordan and Rachel Arndt and Audra and Halle Shick, great- grandmother of Kendra and Jayden, sister of the late Clara and Excell Welch, aunt of Raymond, Strake (Donna and the late Bar- bara) and great-aunt of Ray (Darlene) and Scott Straka, and niece of Theresa Pendleton of Kings Moun- tain. Mrs. Arndt died June 23,2009. She was a volun- tary Girl Scout leader for 15 years. A private service was held. ( Danny) Bagwell, 66, of 406 W, Gold St., died June 26, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born in Cleve- land County, the son of the late Willis B. Bagwell and: was also preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Mar- tin Bagwell, Bobby Ray Bagwell, and Wade Bag- well and his sister, Gloria Spicer. A member of First Pres- byterian Church. of ‘which" he was an Elder, he was a Mason and member of Fairview Lodge 339 AF&AM of Kings Moun- tain. BARBARA PATTERSON WACO, TEXAS - Bar- bara Baum Patterson, 77, wife of Dr. Bob Patterson, formerly of Kings Moun- tain, died June 25, 2009 at St. Catherine’s Hospice Center after a three year struggle with pancreatic cancer. . A memorial service to celebrate her life*and good works was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Waco, Texas. Dr. Brian Har- bour and Dr. Scott Walker officiated. A reception for the family followed the service. A beloved wife, mother, college educator and so- | Gila worker, ; > Mrs. Patterson had a double license from the state of Texas as a professional counselor and = social worker. She had a long ca- reer with the State of Texas and her last position before retirement was as a supervi- sor in the Child Protection Agency. Surviving are her hus- band, Dr. Bob Patterson, Distinguished Professor of Religion at Baylor Univer- sity, their two daughters, Lindy an husband, Brian Dehm of Crawford, Texas and Beth Patterson of Fort Worth, Texas;, and two - grandchildren, Ashley Dehm, 17, and Austin Dehm, 13. Born in Canton, Ohio to Janet Glossier and Harold Baum, Barbara grew up in her teenage years in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. before leaving for college in 1950. She married Bob Patterson in December 1953 ‘after graduating from Baylor University and they lived in Louisville, Ky. for six years while ‘Bob finished two graduate degrees. They moved back to Waco in 1961 when Bob joined the Baylor faculty in the Reli- gion Department. An active participant in the First Baptist Church of Waco, Mrs. Patterson was a member of the Patterson Sunday School Class. She loved to travel and took nu- merous trips to England, Europe, Russia and the Middle East with her hus- band. She attended classes at Oxford University, Eng- land, when her husband was on a research project there. She participated in several archeological digs in Israel with the Baylor Archeology: program and also worked at the Waco Mammoth site. After retirement, she was active in community proj- ects and returned to her love of painting in her home stu- dio. The family would like to thank all the doctors and medical technicians at Waco Oncology Center for their skill in ministering to Barbara during her illness and the staff at Providence Hospital and the Hospice at St. Catherine’s Center. Bar- bara was thankful for a life- time of friends and family who supported her in her months of illness. Burton Funeral Home Suspect found hanging from rafters Responding to a call of assault on a female, Kings Mountain Police found the suspect, 31-year-old Ken- neth Pressley, of Bessemer City, hanging from the rafters of an apartment in Elizabeth Estates. According to the arrest report, Pressley was found dangling from the ceiling _ after running into the apart- - ment and “jumping into the : 9% GC attic”. When officers went : in(side the dwelling the sub- | ject had fallen through the ceiling.” Another report claimed ! “damage to’property” , stat- | ‘ing that the suspect had | knocked a “hole in the: sheetrock ceiling while hid- | ing in (the) attic loft.” Damage to the ceiling ; was estimated at $450.
