She was a native of Cleveland County, the daughter of the late James Miles and Mattie Viola Mor- -ris Hicks and was also pre- ceded in death by her husband, Leonard Liv- ingston Hamrick; brothers, Sidney Hicks, J. M. Hicks Jr., and*Albert Hicks. Mrs. Hamrick loved cooking, quilting and em- broidery and enjoyed being with all of her great and great-great grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith and retired from Firestone Mllls, Gastonia after 35 years. The driver, 17-year-old Ty Williams, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuri Trooper T. R. Lee said that Williams was driving his Toyota 4Runner behind a white 4Runner operated by Mortensen's 17-year- old brother, Sean, and a red truck driven by another Whitaker. He passed the two oncoming lane and tried to merge between Whitaker's truck and another car ahead of it. BESSEMER CITY - A Kings Mountain teenager was killed Friday night when his friend's sport utility vehicle skidded and flipped on Whitesides Dairy Road outside MATT MORTENSEN Mortensen is the son of Keith M. and Patricia Halleks Mortensen of Kings Moun- tain. He is survived by his parents and his - brother, Sean Mortensen. A native of Sussex County, NJ, he was a junior at Bessemer City High School and an employee of UCS Inc. in Lincolnton. He was the grandson of the late Harold and Val Mortensen and Paul and Mary Hallecks. An avid athlete, he was a member of the ing.
