Howard Corbin
LINCOLNTON -
Howard John Corbin, 71,
died Monday, Sept. 28,
2009. He will be remem-
bered as a loving and caring
husband, father and grand-
father.
Born July 16, 1938 in
DuBois, Pa., he as the son,
of the late William George
and Velma Corbin. Reared
in Hazen, Pa., he graduated
from Brookville High
School, attended Penn State
University and graduated
from Gannon University
with a degree in mechanical
engineering.
He began his career with

Lincolnton in 1976 with
Stackpole Carbon, opening
and managing the Lincol-
nton manufacturing plant.
He worked for MTE Hy-
draulics in Gastonia for a
number of years and spent
the last 17 years working
with Buckeye Fire Equip-
ment in Kings Mountain.
Through his leadership and
dedication, he touched the
lives and inspired the ca-
reers of those he worked
with over the years.
Corbin was an avid
golfer, hunting enthusiast
and enjoyed traveling.
Howard, lovingly known
as Papa Corbin; was pre-
ceded in death by his wife,
Rebecca Hughes-Corbin in
1992. He is survived by his
daughters, Lesa C. Ritter
and husband William of
Lincolnton and two chil-
dren, Ashton Whitney and
Ross Alexander and Megan
C. Panicucci and husband
Riccardo of Boston, MA
and their four children,
Btandon Paul Heavner,
Hayden John Heavner,
Alexandra Panicucci ad
Christiana Panicucci. He is
also survived by his two

retired from The Interna-
tional Brotherhood of Elec-
trical Workers in Concord
and served in the United
States Army Air Corps dur-
ing World War II in the Pa-
cific Theatre.
Surviving are his wife,
Jeanette McCarter Barnette
Mullis Twitty of the home;
one stepson, Jackie D. Bar-
nette and wife Patti of
Kings Mountain; three step-
daughters, Linda B. Newton
and husband David of
Casar, and Glenda B. Fre-
dell and husband Coy, and
Joan Stephenson, all of
Kings Mountain; a stepson-
in-law, Robert Ervin of
Kings Mountain; 14 grand-
children and 10 great-
grandchildren.
The funeral service was
conducted Saturday, Sept.
26,2009 at 11 a.m. at Ollie
Harris Memorial Chapel in
Kings Mountain. Rev.
Bruce Davis officiated and
interment was in North-
wood Cemetery in South-
port.

Vasquez, 37, of Kings
Mountain was arrested re-
cently on charges of at-
tempting to bribe a state
driver license examiner to
obtain a driver license.
The Division of Motor
Vehicles’ License and Theft
Bureau recently brought
charges against Vasquez
and four other suspects in
Gaston and Rutherford
counties for manufacturing
false identification docu-
ments and driver licenses
from multiple states and at-
tempting to bribe a DMV
driver license examiner.
“I am proud of the DMV
License and Theft Bureau
personnel for their hard
work on this investigation,”
Commissioner of Motor Ve-
hicles Mike Robertson said.
“It also speaks highly of our
driver license examiners
that they assist in reporting
these crimes and increase
the integrity of our offices
across the state.”
DMV inspectors arrested
Mario Ziranda, 35, and
Elvis Sanchez, 28, at their
residence at 272 Roberson
Lane, Forest City on com-
mon law forgery and manu-
facturing North Carolina
driver. licenses. = More
charges could be forthcom-
ing upon the pending inves-
tigation. Sanchez has no
legal United States docu-
mentation. Both are being
held on $75,000 secured
bond in the Rutherford
County jail.
Inspectors also arrested
Claudia Morales Rodriguez,
29, and Alfredo Lopez Her-
nandez, 29, both of Gasto-
nia, on charges .of
attempting to bribe a state
driver license examiner to
obtain a driver license. Ro-
driguez, Hernandez and
Vasquez are believed to be
in the U.S. illegally. They

are being held on $10,000
bond in the Gaston County
jail.
The arrests resulted from
an investigation into the op-
eration of a document lab
which contained equipment
and materials to manufac-
ture counterfeit resident
alien cards, Social Security
cards, birth certificates and
driver licenses from six
states. A Gaston County
driver license examiner as-
sisted in the investigation: .
Annually, the License and
Theft Bureau performs over
3,600 fraud investigations.
Search warrants issued
at the Forest City residence
resulted-in ledgers indicat-
ing hundreds of fake docu-
ment sales weekly. Driver
licenses from California,
Florida, Tennessee, Texas,
Ohio and North Carolina
were found at the location,
along with Social Security
cards and a Maryland birth
certificate. Also seized at
the location was $8,000 in
cash and 15 grams of co-
caine.
License and theft inspec-
tors from Gaston, Burke,
Lincoln,. Catawba and
Cleveland counties con-
ducted. the investigations
and made the arrests. Law
enforcement officials from
the Gastonia Police Depart-
ment, Forest City Police
Department and the Ruther-
ford County Sheriff’s Of-
fice assisted with the
arrests. The U.S. Immigra-
tion and Customs Enforce-
ment Agency has been
alerted.
