The Tiny Mites and Mitey Mites cheer- leaders performed and Pee Wee cheerlead- ers competed in the Greater ~ Gaston Cheerleading Competition held Oct. 25 at Forestview High. The Pee Wees won first place in their division. This was also the first year the KMO cheerleaders have won the Spirit Award at the local competition. At the regional com- petition held Nov. 27 at the old Bobcats arena in Fort Mill, SC, the Pee Wees claimed another first place trophy i in their division. : Cheerleaders and football players were recognized and honored recently at Mc- Donald's on Shelby Road during the first annual KM Optimist Night. Proceeds from food sold during 5-8 p.m. that night will benefit the club.. The KMO's Junior Pee Wees football team recently played in the Ray Bowl in Charlotte by invitation only among four teams from the region and won. The win- ners faced each other at an exhibition dur- ing half time of a Carolina Panthers game at Bank of America Stadium. The team took on the Winston-Salem Greyhounds Oct. 11 during the Panthers vs. Washington Redskins game. The team is coached by Scott Wells, Jeff Bolin, Mark Crawford, Curtis Pressley, Vince Sullens and Phillip Roberts. Other football coaches in the club, in- clude Scott Davis, Paul Smith, Michael Roberts, Tim Collins, Lindell Zanders, Jonathan Merck, Lavon Robertson, Kelly McCreary, Alan McNamara, Sean Clark, JT Putnam, Shad Johnson, Keith Smith, Charles Burns, Todd Fleming and Tom Stevenson.’ ) Cheerleading coaches and representa- tives are Marica Hudson, Jamie Smith, Renee Rikard, Denise Tomberlin, Patty Davis and Kelly Bolin. Student demonstra- tors for the cheering squad include Heather Hudson, Caryson Bolin, and Bree Camp- field. Over 100 players took the field last year as part of one of Kings Mountain Optimist's football teams. The 2008 Optimist's cheer- leading roster had 38 participants.
