Ernie Payne, Jr. KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ernie Payne Jr., 65, of 505- B South Limestone St., Gaffney, SC, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Dec. 3, 2009 at home. Born in Gaston County, he was the son of the late Emest Cecil Payne, Sr and Claudia Ware Payne. A grad- uate of Central School in Kings Moun- tain, he | began'— his broadcasting career an- nouncing results of Moun- taineer sports games on radio station WKMT. He also worked at WAAK in Dallas and other area sta- tions before joining WAGI in Gaffney, SC, for 21 years. He graduated from * Western Carolina Univer- sity. He was the grandson of the late Elbert F. Payne and Susie Mae Payne and the late Claude and Lillie Ware of Kings Mountain. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of York, SC, and was a loving father and grandfather. Surviving are his sons, Timothy Payne of York, SC, and Tracy Payne and wife, Kellie, of Rock Hill, SC; his Dec:12,2009 © sister and brother-in-law, Ginger and James Self of Gastonia; and three grand- ‘children, Wesley Payne, Olivia Payne and Anna Liese Payne.
