KM’s girls fell behind 20-4 in the first quarter and trailed 30-8 at halftime. Huss led 41-20 going into-the fourth quarter. The Lady Mountaineers have scored = only 48 points in their two games Without Roberts. KM’s #2 scorer, Evan Brags, also sat out ‘most of the contest and managed just four points and four rebounds. Caroline Cham- bers led the scoring with seven points and also had two rebounds, three steals and'‘two assists. Tiara McClain had five rebounds and Brook Davis four. The Mountaineers stayed with the tall and talented Huskies for the first few min- utes but Huss began dominating behind the inside scoring of Jontavian Hall. Hall scored a game-high 33 points, giving him + 62 points in the Huskies’ two wins against Kings Mountain this season. Brian Brown led the Mountaineers with 31 points and Cedric Thompson added 19. Huss improved to 9-0 in the conference and 15-2 overall while Kings Mountain fell (to 3-5 and 6-11. Two weeks ago the Moun- taineers were 3-1 and in third place in the BSC but they’ve now lost four straight con- ference games, and five overall, to fall all the way to fifth place. The KM girls dropped their third straight conference game and their fourth loss in the last five games overall and now find them- selves in sixth place in the 7-team BSC with a 2-5 conference and 5-11 overall mark. The KM teams were scheduled to play at Ashbrook last night and will travel to" North Gaston Friday. KM fourth in Big South swim meet By GARY STEWART Sports Editor Both Kings Mountain teams finished fourth in the Big South 3A Conference swim meet Tuesday at Neisler Natato- rium. Forestview won the girls meet with 342 points, followed by South Point 236, Ashbrook 205, KM 161, Crest 122, Hunter Huss 62 and North Gaston 32. Ashbrook won the boys meet with 337 points, followed by South Piont 261, Forestview 243, KM 149, Huss 86 and Crest 19. 4 Neither KM team posted a first place. Alyssa White finished second in the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard breaststroke. Brooks McGinnis was sec- ond in the 500 freestyle. Finishing third for the Mountaineers were Adam Brock in the 50 free, Tanner Deaton in the 100 butterfly and Jonathon Martin in the 500 free. White, Kiersten Johnson, Casey DeVane and Emily Peeler finished third in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Johnson finished fourth in the 500- yard freestyle and McGinnis, Deaton, Martin and Wayne Dover were fourth in the 400 yard free relay. Johnson, White, Peeler and Brittany Lysek finished fourth in the 200 yard medley relay and De- Vane, Lysek, Morgan Weeks and Bailey Williams were fourth in. the 400 yard freestyle relay. Shelby sweeps Mountaineers By GARY STEWART Sports Editor Kings Mountains Mountaineers dropped a non-conference doubleheader at Shelby Tuesday, the girls losing 57-19 and the boys 54-41. Minus their leading scorer, Brittnee Roberts, the KM girls couldn’t get their of- fense going against a very talented Shelby five. Shelby led 9-4 after the first quarter, 28-11 at halftime and 47-13 going into the fourth quarter. Evan Bragg led the Lady Mountaineers ~ with five points. Tiara McClain had six re- bounds. Rashaida Dimetros had four and Savannah Cash and Brook Davis added the Lions for a quarter and a half before Shelby’s height and depth took over. The Mountaineers again got outstanding play from Cedric Thompson and Brian Brown, who helped them build a 16-10 lead after the first quarter. But with three players out of action, it didn’t take long for the Mountaineers to begin tiring and Shelby began dominating, especially inside. Shelby came from behind to build a 28-21 halftime lead and gradually pulled away in the sec- ond half. Zac Gullatte led the Shelby attack with 18 points. Thompson scored 18 for the Mountaineers. GIRLS GAME three apiece. Shelby’s Clarrisa Hunt led all scorers with 15 points. The scrappy Mountaineers hung with Patriots sweep West Lincoln Kings Mountain Middle School swept West Lincoln in a Tri-County Conference basketball doubleheader Thursday. Monique Petty scored 14 points and Taquisha Smith added nine as the Lady Pa- triots posted their first win after three losses, 30-20. Alex Reynolds contin- ued his hot scoring pace as he scored 22 points.to lead the Patriots to a 42-33 win. The Pats are 2-1 in the East- ern Division and 2-2 over- all. Basketball, wrestling rescheduled Because of the weather, Kings Mountain High’s basketball games and wrestling match with Gas- tonia Ashbrook have been rescheduled. The basketball games will be played Wednesday at Ashbrook. JV girls action begins at 4 p,.m., followed by the JV boys, varsity girls and varsity boys.
