He was a car salesman,
owning his own lot as well
as worked for the
Greenville News for over
20 years as a typesetter.
Surviving are his son,
William Steven Blackwell
of Easley, SC; his daughter,
Anne Marie Blackwell of
Mauldin, SC; a sister, Faye
Adkins of Port Richie, FL;
two bothérs and sisters-in-
law, Dean and Anne Black-
well of Rock Hill, SC and
Donald R. and Ruth Black-
well of Mauldin, S.C. :
He was preceded in
death by his wife, Mary
Ann Long Blackwell.
A memorial service was
held at New Life Baptist
Church on Sunday, Feb. 7.
2010 at 3 p.m.

tain’s Mountain Rest Ceme-
tery.

Lillie Gantt Gordon, 90, of
1304 W. Gold Street Exten-
sion, died Feb. 3, 2010 at
home.
A native of Cleveland
County, she was the daugh-
ter of the late Drury Wilkin
Gantt and Julia Ann Pryor
Gantt. She was also pre-
ceded in death by her hus-
band, Lee Winfred Gordon,
brothers Paris Gantt and
Carl Gantt, and sisters
Selma Jolley and Lona
Crouch.
She was a member of
Westover Baptist Church in
Kings Mountain for over 50
years. She was a home-
maker, wonderful wife and
mother.
Surviving are her daugh-
ters, Linda Goins and
Brenda Frazier, both of
Kings Mountain, and
brother, Clarence Gantt of
Hickory.
The family received
friends Saturday evening,
Feb. 6, from 6-8 p.m. at
Harris Funeral Home.
The funeral service was
conducted Sunday, Feb. 7,
at 2 p.m. at Westover Bap-
tist Church. Rev. Dale
Angel and Rev. Roger
Webb officiated and inter-
ment was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.

James Arvil Hall, 90, of

Wednesday, Feb. 3. 2010 a

Born in Gaston County,
he was the son of the late
Sebastian and Mary King
Hall and was also preceded
in death by two brothers,
Bobby and Leroy Hall, and
sisters, Annie Hines and
Fannie Messner.
A Civil Service em-
ployee for 14 years in Cali-
fornia, he was a member of
Disabled American Veter-
ans, Veterans of Foreign
Wars, American Legion and
NARFE. He served 10
years in the US Army and
was at Pearl Harbor during ~~
World War II. He also
served 10 years in the US
Air Force where he retired.
Surviving are his wife,
Sara Champion Hall of the
home; sons, James Arvil
Hall Jr. and friend, Helen
Clayton, Steve Clary and
wife Violet, Kenneth Clary
and wife Judy, and Ricky
Hall and wife Lisa, all of

East Gold Street Wesleyan
Church, she taught Sunday
School and helped in the of-
fice.
Sgt. Dorothy “Dot”
Howell was Kings Moun-
tain’s first sworn female pa-
trol officer and retired from
the Kings Mountain Police
Department after 20 years
of service.
Surviving are her daugh-
ter, Sherri Howell Crisp and
husband, Roger of Shelby;
sons, Ray Howell and wife,
Cindy, of Jacksonville and
Michael Howell and wife,
Joyce, of Covington, GA;
brother, Robert Gaddis
Owens and wife, Linda, of

of Raleigh, and Jaclyn

Pearl and John Shuford

She retired from Arling-
ton Mills, Gastonia. She
was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother, great-grand-
mother, great-great grand-
mother, sister and aunt. She
was an amazing lady who
believed in godly family
- values and wanted to make
sure the family stayed close
to one another. She loved
her family; but most of all,
she loved her Lord and Sav-
ior, Jesus Christ. She was a
