Hovis "KINGS MOUNTAIN- Robert Martin Hovis, 79, of Kings Mountain, went to be with the Lord on March 27, 2010 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby. Born in Gaston County, he was the son of the late Walter Hovis and Iva Eaker Hovis. Retired from FM C Lithium Corpo- ration, he was a member of East- side Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, mem- ber of the Men’s Bible Class and chairperson of the ushers. He was a wonderful husband, father and grand- father. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Nelline Putnam Hovis of the home; son, Steven Hovis and wife, Rita, of Kings Mountain; daughter, Julie Barrett and husband, Brian, of Cher- ryville; and six grandchil- dren, Marc Hovis, Shea Hovis, Logan Barrett, Zach- ery Barrett, Madison Grace Barrett and Selena Fitch; and two great-grandchil- dren. The family received friends Sunday, March 28, from 7-9 p.m. at Harris Fu- neral Home and other times at the home of the daughter, 803 Settlers Dr., Cher- ryville. The funeral service was conducted Monday, March 29 at 2 p.m. Rev. Ron Caul- der and Rev. Jeff Glenn of- ficiated and interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The graveside service was conducted Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Moun- tain Rest Cemetery by Rev James Hamrick. Harold Flowers KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ambrose Harold Flowers, 85, of 901 Rhodes Ave., died March 30, 2010 at Car- olina Medical Center, Lin- colnton. He was born in Cleve- land County to the late Robert and Mary Absher Flowers and was also pre: ceded in “death by | his wife | of 47 years, | ers, son, Jerry Dean - Flowers, Laie Phyllis Flowers, three brothers and two sisters. He was a Railroad Postal Clerk from 1954-1980 and retired from the Charlotte- Douglas International Air- port Mail Service. Flowers served in the United States Army during World War II in the “Battle of the Bloody Bucket,” re- ceiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of Macedo- nia Baptist Church, Otis D. Green Post 155 American Legion and a lifetime mem- ber of Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his son, Jimmy H. Flowers and wife, Vicki, of Lincolnton; daughter, Elaine Flowers Morrison - and husband, Randy; of Kings Mountain; two grandchildren, Andy “Flowers of Charlotte and Sherry Bridges Hughes of Kings Mountain; two great- grandchildren, = Brandon Darnell and Ashley Hughes. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Rev. Frank Herman will officiate and interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 1, 2010 from 2:30-3:30 p.m.- at Harris Funeral Home prior to the funeral service. Property damages were high and KM Rescue Squad and Cleveland County EMS were dis- patched to the scene; sev- eral passengers in the four cars were treated at Kings Mountain Hospital and Cleveland Regional Med- ical Center. MARCH :21: A 1997 Mercury operated by Bernard Smith, 117 Branchwood Cir, hy- droplaned on I-85 and the driver lost control on the ramp and struck a tree. The car was damaged $1500, according to Officer Mark Butler. MARCH 22: Officer Bryan McGinnis said that Sue Turner, 120 Country Creek Dr., was backing from a parking space at 120 Country Creek Dr. and struck a 2005 Ford operated by Richard Bowling III, 818 Parkwood Rd., Shelby. Damages were minor. MARCH 22: Officer Bryan McGinnis cited Jerry Jerome Bess, 314 Wilson Ter., with unsafe movement and no operator’s license . after his vehicle crossed the center line on Lackey St. and struck a 2004 Ford op- erated by Tareesa Surratt of Shelby. Damages were estimated at $2500. MARCH 23: Officer H. W. Carpenter said that Jef- frey Ramsey of Shelby, op- erating a City of Kings Mountain garbage truck, struck a 1999 Honda oper- ated by Sheila Adams of Grover on Temple St. The garbage truck had stopped to pick up a container and Adams, also traveling north on Temple Street, drove around the truck and was attempting to make a right turn into the driveway of a residence. Property dam- ages were estimated at $6,000. MARCH 25: Officer Mark Butler said that a 2007 Honda operated by Ernest Steele Jr. of Balti- more,Md. ran off the left side of I-85 south, crossed both lanes of travel and hit a dirt embankment doing an estimated $1200 damage to his vehicle.
