Born in Cherokee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Victoria Carroll Bul- lock. She retired from Kings Mountain Hospital. Surviving are her daugh- all of Kings Mountain, and Joy Burton Mosley and hus- band, Terry of Gastonia; brothers, Dean Bullock and David Bullock, both of Kings Mountain; sisters, Nellie Moore of Kings Mountain, Shirley Stamey of Grover and Ruth Burris of Albemarle; eight grand- children, two great-grand- children; companion of 36 years, Robert Ivey of Kings Mountain; and former hus- band Edward “Doc” Burton of Kings Mountain. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, April 14, at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Rev. Joe Heffner will offici- ate and interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday night at Harris Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m and other times at the home of her sister, Nel- lie Moore, 304 Edell Street. Barris Sfuneral Home Carolyn Cobb KINGS MOUNTAIN- Carolyn Sanders Cobb, 69, of 803 Phifer Rd., died April 11, 2010 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late Fred and Lillian Howell Sanders. In addition to her parents, she was also pre- ceded in death by her son, Brian {98 Cobb. An EE. assistant pS Sa public school teacher at North Elendentary for 23 years, she was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was in- volved in the M&M Sunday school class. She was a member of a Garden Club and Red Hat Society in Kings Mountain., She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. “She was the best.” Surviving are her hus- band of 49 years, Jack * Cobb, of the home; daugh- ‘ters, Sandra C. “Chub” Baker and husband, Dr. Stephen ‘’Steve’’ Baker of Kings Mountain and Yogi C. Williamson and husband, Tim, of Waxhaw; and grandchildren Trigg Williamson, Maelee Williamson, Adeline Williamson, Caroline Baker, Sam Baker and ~ Meredith Baker. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Dr. John Sloan will officiate with in- terment in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Parris Funeral Home Billie Farris KINGS MOUNTAIN- Billie Owens Farris, 76, of 1622 Stony Point Rd., Shelby, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain. She was born in Cleve- land County, daughter of the late Richard and Betty Lundsford Owens, and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karla Van- Dusen and brother Jack Owens. An active member of Second worked in the Nursery and pre- pared meals | for church families and activities. She was a homemaker and owner/operator of “Just Us Catering Service’ in Kings Mountain. She was a vet- eran of the Korean War and served in the US Navy WAVES as a Yeoman. Offi- cers of the Shelby Police Department served as pall- bearers. : She is survived by her sons, Michael W. Smith, and wife Charlyhne of Youngsville, NC, Lieu- tenant Commander Mark F. Smith and wife Beth of Siler City, NC, Lee E. Farris of Shelby, NC; sister, Jean Moss of Indian Trail, NC; grandchildren, Dr. James B. Myers III and wife Mandy, Paul Farris, Kimberlee Far- ris; and great granddaugh- ter, Isabel Karla Myers. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. James Lockridge at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Sec- ond Baptist Church. Goforth, her daughter, Mickie Logan Springs, and her brother, Eugene McSwain. A retired public school teacher, she taught for 34 years in tiihiie Moun- and was an inspi- ration to her stu- dents and her students loved her. Mrs. Goforth was a member of First Presbyte- " rian Church where she was an Elder and member of the choir. She was a member of the North Carolina Associ- ation of Educators, Kings Mountain Woman’s Club and was very active in her community. Andrew ‘Dana’ Holman KINGS MOUNTAIN-— Dana Andrew “Dee” Hol- man, age 65, of 1615 York Rd., Kings Mountain, died April 6, 2010 at Gaston Me- morial Hospital. He was born in Weldston, England, son of the late Howard Austin Holman. He was a member of Oak View Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, and the DAV. He served in the United States Army for seven years during the Viet- nam War and was wounded in action four times, receiv- ing four Purple Hearts’ and one Bronze Star. He was a golf pro at Crowders Moun- tain Golf Club and in 1964 WwW 0 n : Inner Service Gio lif Cham- pio - nship, Paris, France. In 1972, after re- ceiving his injuries in Viet- nam, he returned to golf and won the South Florida Open at Doral Country Club’s “The Blue Monster” on the Hogan Tour. RE , 44¢ forum Letter to the editor... * Dr. Paul Jehle : Historian, lecturer to speak at Family Worship Center Dr. Paul Jehle, historian and lecturer from Plymouth, MA, will lead a free consti- tutional and teaching semi- nar Friday, April 16, at 7 p-m. and Saturday, April 17, from 9:30 a.m.-noon and 2:30-5 p.m. in the audito- rium at Family Worship Center, 1818 Shelby Rd. A recognized authority on the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independ- . ence and the Founding Fa- thers, Jehle will talk on “The Church’s Responsibil- ity to the Culture,” dealing with the Biblical responsi- bility assigned to believers and especially local churches in impacting cul- ture, illustrating it in his- tory. Pastors are particularly encouraged to attend the Friday session. Saturday’s morning ses- sions will feature the topics “Equality” and “The Mean- ing of the First Amend- ment.” Jehle will take one word in the Declaration and demonstrate how an under- standing of its original meaning has been perverted over the years, illustrating the health care debacle. He will also teach on the origi- nal meaning of “The First Amendment.” Public officials are par- ticularly encouraged to at- tend the afternoon session on Saturday to learn how the original meaning of pri- vate property is embedded in the Declaration and Con- stitution and also about “County Interposition’, where he will deal with the Biblical and historical foun- dations of county govern- ment.
